617.952 Hot Rod
This is interesting, a 617.952 used in a modified Sreet Rod. the frame looks sort of light duty, and the rear section looks like a weak point.

You know, the more I look into it, the more "other" applications I see the 617 being adapted to. Lots of rock crawler and off roaders love these motors and put them in their rigs, even Toyotas. It's so damn bullet proof even the legendary 22r doesn't hold a candle to it.

The 18RC was much more rugged than the 22R or the 22RU.

I bought a used 74 toyota PU, in the dark (knew better), thing had a miss and a noise from the clutch area. needed something fast and the price was right after getting my 67 VW totaled.
HMMM. I bought the 85 300D in the dark, something about the dark. they all look good in the dark. it`s the next morning they don`t always look so good.  It had the 18RC engine. did a compression test, burnt valves in one cyl. got head rebuilt and but another 18k on it. the darn thing would keep getting out of time. as I remember it had an adjustment on the side of the distributor. always had to mess with it. The clutch problem was bearings in the transmission.  After I traded it off for the 82 Datsun PU, I went back to the dealer for the other key and some papers. the guy said they were having some problem with a miss in the engine. I don`t know  your problem now.All I remember is, that 18RC eng was a POS. except for the timing problem, it ran good. Charlie

The small Toyota engine to have is the 1.8l 3t engine. Pushrod engine, and pretty decent power for what it is and for the fuel it uses. I had one in an 81 Corolla SR5 hardtop, didn't learn how rare that car was until after I sold it (for 10x what I paid for it), but it sure was a fun little car.

I have been planning on at least one of my old vintage gmc's having one,
The COE one ton most likely will--for as little as i drive it a 135 hp will do. The fenderless 36 rod done like a 34 ford will most likely get a 3.0 merc but not what yall are thinkin. there was a quickie rat rod done with a 617 in old school rods a yr or so ago in two issues--running wvo(lovecrap)
