The Corsa is a great car, one I wish I would have had, but never went down that road.

I would probably look at the 850 first, have heard a lot of complaints about that model, knew a friend who was stranded by one several times. It was a great looking car but a lot of electrical gremlins. I always swore it was possessed.

Second I would look at the other Volvo unless you get a lot of push back from the driver...but these are the two in your fleet that I would look at first.

Next would be the 300D or the Corvair

As for the prior comments on the VW, if it's an ALH powered TDI, and I would generally think that it is, I would not get rid of it. It is the highest mpg car in your fleet and if/when fuel prices begin to really climb you may rely on this more in the future. If it's not getting high 40's mpg there's a problem that needs to be resolved. In the end it's your lowest cost per mile vehicle. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that VW engine.

Two of them could be registerd and insured as classics (investments). Would that cost savings get the wife to change her mind?

Keep your wife away from my wife! I'm close to having her convinced that it's normal for a man to have two cars.

Lets see, I have...

3 trucks (1 is a "project")
2 cars (1 is "sold" if I ever get paid for it)
1 Motorcycle
1 ATV
0 Wife

and I can still only drive one at a time.

I'd have trouble thinning your list myself, but I'd lean towards one of the Volvo's if I had to.

I wonder if all his cars are really all that much insurance wise? He has nothing newer than 02, and probably most of them can be liability only. I once had 5 cars registered and insured for less than my one friend was paying for his single brand new car.
If I remember, his insurance actually exceeded mine for all 5 by a few hundred dollars, and I think the average property tax charge for them was 9 dollars a car. Re-registration was the only higher charge, but it still wasn't all that bad.

The questions is, whats Psaboic's wife's real beef? Is it just that they are annoying to her, or do they distract him from paying attention to her or the family? The cost can't be that bad, unless of course he is restoring all six of his cars at the same time!

Plus he has kids, he has six cars, one is for work on his property, one for his wife, one for his kids, leaving him three personally, a daily driver, a classic, and an old diesel. I see no problems with this arrangement, cars are cheap and plentiful here, why not have a selection?

I also have 3 cars just like that, a daily driver/work van, a 300D sedan whenever im not working, and a 74 as my classic. 3 is a perfect arrangment
