Hey John, wouldn`t you would first tap the center pins in with a punch or small screwdriver, then gently pry out the square piece?

then after lifting out the vent, look for the 4 little black plastic pins. one will likely drop into the drain where the large rubber hose is attached on either side of the firewall. the pin could/maybe drop through the hose. might want to put a piece ot tape to keep the end together first. I have lost a few of them at PNP removing chrome vents.

Indeed Charlie that's how mine were / are...

Funny isn't it? You can really tell on this car that the designer loved the idea of a bayonet with a central fixing pin - they are on the cowl covers and on the front of the metal plate that covers the wiper motor.

Take a look at the links I posted in post #2 to see photos of how the cowl vents are removed.

Chad, that is exactly the way it is done. And the little knock out pin drops into that red hose you show in the other link.

Army, they use those knock out pins under the door for the seal strip along the rocker panel also. there are a row of white clips that hold the strip on. once those are knocked out, you are SOL, the pin falls into the rocker.

My 82 from LA was similar.

Im curious why nobody cuts or drills a little out of the drain pocket in the fender, so that everythin can flow a little easier.

Where in S. GA? Macon and above, it's red GA clay you find packed into the car. South of Macon, sand seems to be the issue.

That's right Charlie I forgot about those little buggers - I guess if the car hasn't been filled up with waxoyl (or dinitrol etc etc etc) you might be able to get the little bits out if you can remove the rubber bungs in the sill.

Nice trick Chad and Charlie - it looks like you've got a two piece wheel arch liner fitted to your car Chad... I've got the bit you modified but I don't have the one that goes above the wheel. Were these bits fitted to all cars?

I believe the piece you have was only on the earlier models with the glued fenders. Mine is a 1985.

Yes, nice work!

What washout logic behind removing the whole bottom? I assume they had it closed originally for a reason.

With the bottom cut out, leaves, pine needles and little twigs that normally get trapped in the drain will pass right through.

Agreed. But I wonder why they had it so tightly closed in the bottom... To prevent salty water from getting up that direction???

I was thinking of putting holes or a notch, not pulling out the entire bottom. I was thinking that there was some basis behind the closure of the bottom, at least to some extent...
