That is a pretty slick tool. don`t see why you couldn`t do the whole system your self with it.

Also with that crimper tool, looks like you could do oil cooler hoses.

That's what I was thinking. This job may require some tinkering with the cooler lines.

Here is a thorough write up on flushing the system.

hecatinc

I stumbled accross this while reading up on making repairs to a 2000 S10 Chebby truck (dad's). Based on an initial observation it looks like it may have a plugged orifice. I'll take it apart tomorrow to see what's goign on.

Thanks Jim. I'm shooting for all new stuff except for the evaporator. Did you get that Benz figured out the other day?

I hope to take the Benz on a trip to Soperton if I ever get it figured out Jim. Doing some thinking while waiting on parts. I really need to stop...

Does the "Dual" just mean that the size is the same from "GM" to metric?

It's a Sanden "FK" head with the R12 ports built into the head.

This AC hose stuff has me confused and any enlightenment would be welcome!

I'm planning on using this condenser:

http://www.nostalgicairparts.com/air-conditioning/14-x-20-aluminum-condenser-with-drier-mounted-727.php

The inlet is #8 (Which matches the discharge from the compressor) but the drier outlet is a #6. I'll have to do a #6 to flare for the TXV , and then a flare to #10 for the suction side of the compressor. The hose sizes/fittings have me a little confused.
I think all the fittings are standard, not metric. I think you can recognize the metric by the split across the flat on the fitting. Look about 10 items down at the link: http://www.rayeveritt.com/Fittings/10Fittings.htm

What I did for my custom hoses was remove the parts, take them to an A/C place where they confirmed the sizes, then ordered the hoses to match.

Thanks. Seems that AC hose sizes are pretty standard. 10 from evaparator. to compressor, 8 from comp. to condenser and 6 from drier to evaporator. My old system uses flares except for the funky GM compressor manifold. They make flare to O ring adapters so you can use modern hoses to/from the evaporator/ TXV.
