Dunno if the MT in my 91 BMW is THAT much different from your w123. Those E30 cars were designed in the late 70's/early 80s versus early 70's like a w123. Was there much change?

Just relaying my experience with Redline MTF. If you like the shifting feel, ignore it. Using it many years, I didnt like the feel after about a year of use, and so I found something that did better in my application...

My post was in Jest... except that the mileage figure was true.... without AC ...and with three good ac's on the place.... I drive it 6 miles per year for sure.. to get the inspection sticker.... otherwise I start it once per week to warm it up...and keep the battery up by trickle charger...
I keep it licensed and insured as a backup to these computer controlled cars I usually depend on..

OK, I made a big mistake in stating that I had Mobil 1 engine oil in the differential. Thought I better check that out since that differential is now in my new car, 83 240D with 617Turbo. Anyway the gear oil I have in it is Mobil 1 full Synthetic 75 / 140 for light truck and SUV differentials. I apologize for my error. Jim

I use the Amsoil ATF in the 4-spd in the 240 and the 300, it shifts like butter. when I swapped in the 4-spd into the 85 300D, I started with the Amsoil 75/90 GL4. figuring with the miles on the box 200K +, the thicker oil would take us the slack in the wear. shifter ok, but the thicker oil I feel slows down the Synchros between shifts.

I drained it and went to the Amsoil ATF, and really made a world of difference. when we got the 240 last year, I drained the box (and there was some brown crappy stuff in there) and added the Amsoil ATF. shifts real nice and the grind in second is almost not there.

I use the Amsoil gear oil in the differentials. and have used it in my Datsun PU in it`s 5-spd gear box w/o any problems, along with the Diff for way over 400K miles.

NOTE: I don`t sell the product and not on their pay roll, I just like their company and products. Plus I pick it up at the warehouse in Portland, no sales tax, no shipping, and get for the same price as the dealers.

Costco had a good sale on Mobil One 5W30 which I use in my manual 5 speed trannys and B&S lawn mower engines. Now I no longer have the "5 spd rattle" when the cars warmed up
