Increasing IP output

Hey everyone, trying to get some more power out of the 350SDL. Im increasing the boost from the turbo, adding an intercooler but I need to figure out how to increase the fuel output of the injection pump. Where can i adjust the output of IP????? Ive been trying to figure it out but have no idea, help!

Talk to winmutt about the IP's full load adjustment -

Remember, more power = more heat. Do check your cooling system, and plan to clean, flush or replace a clogged radiator.

Jim H is EXACTLY right! You can't get something for nothing. Turning up these engines at best will shorten their life even with the BEST operating cooling systems. Neglect all these ancillary systems and then drive the daylights out of it and you might be measuring engine life in minutes or if lucky, hours.

Good luck,
Larry

Actually, according to BANKS and others in the diesel community, most diesels are staged at the mid to low end of their capability.
As long as boost is increased in porportion to fuel the engine will live for a long time. First thing is not incresing fuel its a pyrometer, boost gauge, and fuel gauge to see what is happening internally. And Larry is right in that excessive heat will limit life, but a healthy fuel/air ratio should get you the power want.

I do not think it is the Fuel-to-Air ratio that is important but the quantity of heat that is released per time.

The fuel burns and releases energy two ways; releases heat and creates gas (which does PΔV work). The energy from this reaction must be dissipated. If not metal fatigues.

Even with 'optimal' F:A with increased boost the piston temperature will increase.

As long as you are not overboosting, it is unlikely that any changing of screws and bolts on the diesels will cause any kind of damage. With a 603 you want to make damn sure your cooling system is operating properly.
