What is this throttle part and how do I replace it?
While trying to adjust the tension on the accelerator pedal (91 300D), I noticed that the white plastic part that has the thumb wheel and the screw drive is broken at the end. It's still screwed into what it's screwed into, just broken at the end, where there's a black cap.
What is this part called and is there a DYI pages somewhere to show me how to replace it? Thanks.

Should be pretty straight forward to trace it out and determine how to route the line out/in. The hardest part will be working up underneath the dash because of the position.

Why would I work under the dash? Shouldn't I just be able to replace that part by the linkage, that white plastic part?

Yea, sorry about that. I had the throttle cable on my mind for some reason. It should be on the throttle linkage parts breakdown.

At times I have trouble going from an FSM schematic to an actual repair. How would I go about replacing the adjusting screw?

It will be tomorrow before I will be able to take a look to provide details on how to repair. I need to take a look at the one in the shop to refresh my memory.

I don't have a pic, but I can describe it accurately. It is an off-white plastic cylinder about 1" long and 1" in diameter with narrower cylinders coming out either end. One of the ends is a screw and looks to be about 1" long and 1/4" in diameter. The part (MB calls it the adjusting screw) does not appear to be available separately, but rather is included with a new throttle cable (or so I assume). Whether I NEED to replace mine is another matter....I was going to ask my indie later this week. But it's certainly firmly screwed in and all throttle operation seems fine.

here is a pic
Send it to the parts link and get a proposal. I think it may be time to change out the cable when the plastic piece gets fully extended.

Your pic is interesting. It looks like the same part is broken off on yours. Out of the pic to the left, is there a free-floating black piece with some white plastic within it? That's what I have....it looks like it was originally connected to the end of the screw drive.

Now I'm figuring it out: the broken piece, still threaded on the cable, is what prevents the adjusting screw from becoming unscrewed too far. But as long as it's screwed to basically that point, there shouldn't be any problems....unless somehow vibrations or what not could cause it gradually to unscrew.

I think that's basically where I am....fully extended then piece broke.
