Removing 240D Head

Well about 3 months ago I broke my oil pan and replaced it and the car hasnt been the same since. After 2 months of trying to fix it I finally got it to run but it still had problems and sounded horrible.
Anyways I'm going to remove the head and check for anything obvious.

Is there any DIY for this project? I have all the bolts off for the camshaft and cam towers right now. I removed the thermostat housing and removed the tensioner. Any advice on this would be appreciated.
