Since 1992 there has been changes with the chemical make up of Diesel Fuel so there is no telling how long a hose not made for the purpose will last.

On the same Car I also replace one of the fuel return hoses with silicon vacuum hose. That worked for over 2 years. However, when I removed it was rock hard and needed some careful cutting to get it off.

I'll order some of the real stuff for when I need it. In the mean, I'll watch the 1 piece of NAPA hose. I'm hoping that it will last because it is readily available and $1/foot vs having to wait until I have an order or getting hit for shipping.

3.2 mm sold by the meter is only $3.75/meter but it takes a week to arrive to my location.

Search ebay for Viton for M-B. I bought 10 ft for $17, I recall for my 84 & 85 engines. Wondered if authentic since from China and fairly cheap, but has been on one 300D for close to a year and still dry. It looks flat grey, not dark and shiny like most rubber, so probably is Viton. I had installed woven hose stamped "Made in Germany" that started weeping after several years. Still on my other 300D and looking a bit wet now. I recall you need ~3 ft per car. No hose clamps needed, just wiggle on and it stays tight. To remove push upward on the end w/ a flat screwdriver, or may have to slit and peel but don't mar the metal. I recall it is 1/8" ID. If I trust all the "made in" stamps, China beats Germany this time.

BTW, for fun I tried a section of silicone vacuum hose and it started swelling after 1 week. I mostly use Diesel HPR, which is a bio-based product, claimed fully compatible w/ D2.
