KY area Independent Mechanic

The only thing i'm not comfortable with doing on this car is two things: Injection pump timing and replacing the chain/checking chain stretch.

And for some reason I'm really frightened about doing a valve adjustment (if your turning a engine over that burns diesel by compression, how do you prevent the thing from igniting the fuel and starting itself during the middle of a valve adjustment, and how do you fight the compression these guys make)

Anybody know of a good indy somewhere in KY I could go to for these three tasks? Ideally I'd like to find someone local to tell me what is wrong with this car, since i've never driven/seen one that is in good running shape.

Bodywise, this car is very good. Just a few things to fix (rear windshield welding commencing next spring for example).

Just need some help and someone to quickly walk me through my first valve adjustment...(although I have done many valve adjustments on my aircooled VW I had and could do them blindfolded)

Removing the glow plugs would solve both the real and imagined issues.

Dutch runs River City Imports and is the best in the area. I would not consider taking your car any place else.

Thanks guys. I know someone who works at Tafel actually (found that out on thanksgiving day), and he recommended Autobahn, but I'm actually going to check out the river city imports place.

I'm mechanically inclined, and have assisted in rebuilding engines and other things (welded rust patches on my 914 and rebuilt the seatbelt mount too)

I may take the car to river city imports and have them check it out.

I take it there's a couple of local-ish people around. Would be nice to meet and check out some diesel mercedes stuff.

Will runs a small garage behind Clifton Pizza. The man knows Benz, is honest and good friends with everybody.

Art over at R and B off of Spring Street is also good. A nice shop with good coffee.

Both love what they do ... And are competent

Awesome! I just have no idea what these diesel cars feel like when they are running well. I could have a major issue causing my car to be slow but I'd never know. I'm the only one in me or my fiancé's family that has a diesel car.

Thanks for the suggestions, i'll have to stop by and check these places out. And plus Cresent Hill is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
