today was tooling around the (heavily potholed) part of town where im currently working, and the rear muffler busted off on a pretty heinois section. love the sound, the car has self modified to a nicer exhaust note. i think a straight pipe for the rear muffler is in order, but it depends on what parts i may have kicking around. im pretty sure i have a muffler from a 300d.

looks like those new exhaust hangers were a bit too much for an old exhaust

2 months later rest of exhaust system followed the rear muffler. Rest of it was pretty solid, but nothing can withstand new york.

broke right after the gearbox at 70mph on the highway in the fast lane, ended up driving over it in an explosion of sparks and violence. above is how it looked when we got the side of the road.

Most if it is usable so may reuse in a new muffler system. Really unfortunate part is this happened 150 miles from home, so the wife and I completed the drive with zero exhaust system. She may even speak to me again at some point.

Thats a bummer. Honestly it might be cheaper to just have a shop custom weld up new pipes to whatever is left in the front.

i have just the guy. gonna do same diameter pipe as stock and generic single muffler in the rear, maybe something that will deliver a decent note, but not too loud. my ears are still ringing this morning.

i waited a bit for it to cool down ,then tied it to the roof rack. driving back was like being inside a helicopter engine. on the flat i was ok, but the second you hit a grade, wow. 3 hours of that was punishment.

fortunately the cops left me alone. i put my flashers on and the obvious tailpipe tied to the top of the car they probably didnt figure it was worth it

got my new exhaust all hooked up. decided to dispense with the center resonator/muffler bit and just go with the rear muffler. whisper quiet now, very pleased. muffler shop did a great job, though they got a little to obsessed with tucking the pipe in. if i ever have to pull the driveshaft, the whole exhaust has to come down first now. however it was a nicely done job performed with a breathtaking variety of profanity, so the job came with some entertainment. he is an artist in more than one field it appears.

unfortunately the twisting of the pipe plus driving over it just about destroyed the front hangars. i was able to bash them back to something resembling stock, but they are going to rust pretty quick after all that

Have you replaced the flexible brake lines?

Brake hoses can collapse internally and cause a caliper to stick. After ten years, I would certainly question there operational status. Hope this helps...

I would do the brake lines too. Can't hurt to not at least inspect them.

How many miles on the used calipers??

brake problem went away by taking off the wheel and playing with the caliper, I think it was just a little sticky. works fine now.

Im thinking of putting the car up for sale for another enthusiast honestly. Im starting to feel increasingly bad about running one of these rapidly disappearing cars in winter salt conditions.
