We have discussed leaving her car running in serious sub zero weather.

At the moment she will add a gallon of kerosene to each tank of fuel, for enhanced starting ability.

I strongly suspect fuel jelling was the issue, and the only answer to that is fuel thinning or heat.

.
One of the block heaters had a damaged cord = sparks = unplugged and removed from the car.

Thankfully a single block heater is handling the current cold temperatures.

I added one quart of diesel911 to the full fuel tank, and drove three miles to assure full mixing.

The first big scare

Saturday 1:00 AM she called me at work.

(daughter) "Dad, my car sounds like an alien spacecraft"...

(father) Where are you?

(daughter) In the driveway at home..

(father) Don't go anywhere, I will check it when I arrive home.

..............................

Saturday 3:XX AM I arrive home and check fluids.

Snarl, snap, grump, unprintable....

Nothing on the engine oil dip stick.

Begin adding engine oil, 3 quarts brings it up to the low mark.
Freaking tired, cold, forgedaboudit.

Monday 1:00 PM.
Engine oil reads a whisker above the full mark.

Start the engine, to check transmission fluid level = three pints brings it to the full mark.

Daughter realizes CHECKING FLUID LEVELS IS MANDATORY = or trash the engine.

***********
##########
^^^^^^^^^

I am not to worried about the volume, as it covers roughly 5k miles on a 39 year old car that marks it's territory.

53 days driving to work
86 miles total per day round trip for work
= 4558 work miles.
Not counting other personal jaunts + getting lost despite having my GPS.
plus 16 hours of cold weather idling.

FYI:
The alien spacecraft noise was low transmission fluid, whistle howl, moan.

The damaged block heater has been repaired, and is in the back seat "if needed".

She likes the car as is.

The factory alternator would not take the added load.

Did she take notes, i.e., how to check the oil level on the dip stick?

The latest chuckle

Front data, central locking, shutdown, and cluster lights had been out for a week. (Working too many hours).
Used a small head band flash light for cluster lighting.
===========================================

The chuckle:

After work, she insisted on following me to the local "cheap" fuel station in Dearborn.

Her rear running lights where functioning when we left work...

NO rear running lights when she arrived at the fuel station.

She filled the fuel tank while I performed diagnosis.

Blatantly in my face where two disconnected vacuum hoses = central locking and engine shutdown are functional again.

I rolled the fuses + used a NEW strong flashlight = found two hair line fracture fuses = raided my road service case of new copper fuses = rear running and instrument cluster lights came back on.

This = happy daughter.

Still going strong.

Chuckle:

Daughter needed more cargo space, she resolved this by removing the rear seat.
