I only use the pinky red stuff so I can't help - also I use Kroon Oil Dexron II which doesn't seem to be available out side of the Benelux countries.

I don't know how my trans was arranged originally When I took it apart I found the small spring w/ a cap facing the retaining plate. I have it set up now with that removed and the single spring from the superior shift kit between the piston and the retaining plate.

With a new OE cap on the modulator the trans is working better than ever

This is very interesting, the body housing and tail shaft shape is different than what I've encountered. What is the serial number for this .303?

So from the 303 I know, it is an issue to swap tail housings with a 315.
From your pics, there is a possibility of a 315 to 303 tail swap because the housing shapes are the same. The oil jet may still be an issue.
I think this is intriguing if you can provide the serial number of this trans, I may be able to tell of production date.

I'll see if I can dig it out later on today. I have a gut feeling it is an early one because there isn't so much plastic in it like the later 722.4s - I've seen pictures of later 722.3s that seem to have as much plastic parts and 722.4s...

Remember that some 722.3's have a tail shaft housing for electronic speedo sensor, and others have a different housing for mechanical speedo cable. Listing the year and vehicle model would help. The 1987 300D/TD (124) has the mechanical speedo, the 1987 300SDL (126) has the electronic version. Both are 722.3 but with different tails.

To the best of my knowledge

1) all of the 722.315 transmissions left the factory with a mechanical speedometer cog system

2) all of the 722.303 transmissions left the factory with an electronic speedometer sensor

That doesn't mean however it is not possible to find something that has been modified since then!

Here are the numbers =>

Transmission part number 1262702801

According to chapter 27-0001 (to be found in WIS) this transmission was for national USA and Japan versions between 1982 and 1984 (Note 722.303 for USA in 1985 is different)

Transmission type 722.303 (but you knew that!)

Serial number 02 163988

Bought from someone in Utrecht - so go figure!

Casting part number (main case) = 1262711501

Thread blast from the past.

I have a leak on the drivers side of the trans. It's coming from forward of the vac dash pot, but rear of the cooler line hole. What is that circular plate that accepts a hex key?? What's behind it?.. it is on TIGHT. I'd like to somehow fix the leak....

Please note - I think this diagram showing the relationships between each element and the gears is a bit misleading for someone who is familiar with the 722.1XX. B3 is not a brake band in the 722.3 it is a clutch at the front of the transmission.

Here are some pictures showing the position of certain parts on the outside of the transmission

Doing some work on my Trans bumped this thread so I can find it easier if I have to look later.
