Thank You to all for the kind words and well wishes, I really appreciate it.

I didn`t have a heart attack, it is something called P.A.T., I have had it for a long time, and it hits me every once in a while. starts out like I cant get my breath, and then the heart beat speeds up. It will beat in the neighborhood of 180 beats a minute. It beats so fast, not enough blood gets pumped at each beat, and I get light headed and dizzy. this thing sometime will be only a few beats, and then it can go on for hours.

paroxysmal atrial tachycardia - definition of paroxysmal atrial tachycardia in the Medical dictionary - by the Free Online Medical Dictionary, Thesaurus and Encyclopedia.

Early on I would go in and they would do an EKG and nothing would show up. I was refered to a heart Dr. and did the stress test on a treadmill quite a few times. they had all kind of wires stuck on me, then did an ultrasound of the heart. after a run on the treadmill they would do a ultrasound of the heart after I got it up to 144 beats.

The Dr. said I had no heart disease and it all looked normal, but the problem is something to do in the electrical part. something would get a signal at the wrong time and that would set it off. so he had me on a drug called Dilicor, and took it for quite a few yrs, but still had the issue come back while taking it.
He also said it wouldn`t kill me, but was more of a anoiance (sp).

About 6 weeks ago we were at my Bro in Laws, I brought over a couple tarps to cover his 56 Chevy project and my new $300 78 240D project car. got his covered and started on mine, and this PAT hit me. I stood there for a few min thinking it would pass, but it persisted. so went on and covered the car and went inside the house. told my wife it started. a little later I walked across the living room to go down the hall, and I got super light headed. leaned against the wall to let it pass. it was like my head was going to expand and rise above my shoulders, best I can describe it. then it was like the shades were being pulled down and my vision started to blacken out. I remember 2 bimps, and my wife saying you all right? I collapsed straight to the floor. I got up and seemed ok, but still the fast heart beat.

called my Dr the next day, refered to a heart specialist at Stanford. (now that Iam older, and I did collapse this time, it was time to fix it) 2 weeks later I was scheduled to have it fixed, which was Wednesday morning at 10:45. after a bunch of paper work, had me put on this stylish gown slam dunked me in bed and started sticking in IV`s and all sorts of wires ans things. around 1pm off I went to the operating room where they stuck on all kinds of sticky probes, and 2 large pads on my back one pos and one negative. I guess to kick start me and get me going. they put a mask for air and the Dr said in a minute you will feel like you had a couple glasses of wine...............

Around 4:30 I open my eyes and my wife is there and Iam back in the recovery room. they cut a vein in my Groin, ran a probe to the heart and zapped what ever the thing that was causing the problem. I was visioning some sort of Bore Scope like they sell at HF.
I had to stay in bed until 10pm and keep my leg straight till the vein clotted and held. then they got me up to walk, and back to bed. later I got up and had dinner, Salmon, steamed brocolli, Tossed green Salad, Chocolate Pudding, Oatmeal Rasin cookie and juice. a clicker, Lazy Boy type chair and my own large screen tv while eating.

One of the male nurses was getting off work, stopped by and we BS`d for a while, said hang on. came back with an "I pad", dang I had internet, movies or what ever on this little thing. so I was on the Forum until 3:30am. a guy had to stay on top of things.

For breakfast, Denver Ohmlet, Hash browns, Coffee, English Muffin, Bran Muffin, Peach Yogurt, and 2 Bananas. dang they feed me good.

I got released at 11am, and headed home. my wife drove , I had no choice. ....

So I have to be good and not lift anything over 10lbs for a week so the vein doesn`t start to bleed or it is a 911 call
I did get a Bikini shave dang she was a cutie, 20 something..... got a little nervous the way she was whipping that razor around.

So now it is just trying to be good and not do anything.......

Hopefully this is fixed and i can get back to PNP for some theropy.

Charlie

Charlie,
I'm a little late here but wishing you a speedy recovery! Sounds like you had an "ablation" procedure{its what I do for a living}. Basically, they zap some of the electrical nodes in your heart to get the conductive pathways to settle down. It should most likely fix the issues you have been having with premature atrial contractions{PAT's}. Take it easy for a day or two so your groin puncture can heal and you should be good to go!

Hey Charlie I just saw this headline, I was worried as I went through the thread. But glad you checked in with a post. Sounds like everything is going to be fine. Take it easy my friend, and try to enjoy the recovery!

@everyone - sorry folks I should have explained more in the first post about actual problem - Charlie had told me (not that I really understood it)

I'll edit the post to say to go to Charlie's post describing what was actually going on.

My wife has had that surgery twice.

It is performed by an electrocardiologist.

They go in with a catheter from the vein in the groin, and they watch the heart beating.

There are nodes in the heart tissue that send signals to one side of the heart on when and how to beat (rate and rhythm). The other side of the heart just follows.

The doctor identifies the nodes that are giving the heart tissue a bad signal, and burns them out of commission.

Charlie, I've been there twice already as a teen. (They didn't zap enough of the nerves the first time.) I hope they didn't abuse your groin as much as they did mine. In a week or two you'll be back to normal... well, hopefully better than before, and the sensation that someone was tap dancing on your crotch while you were under will be gone.

Take it easy and get well soon!

Charlie,
Haven't talked to you since we had that GTG and drive up there a few years ago. You "Fixed my headlight problem in Mariah(Fuse gone!).
Hoping an praying for a full and speedy recovery.
I had a blood clot behind my left knee on Jan 1st this year and know all about the "don't do this" thing. Luckily I was removed from the blood thinners in June and no recurrences since the first one.
Us Charlie's gotta stick together. BTW we need another Drive/GTG up in your neck of the woods.
