RIP 1992 300D 2,5Turbo

The title says it all!

Some dramatic internal breakage occured at cold start up (-10degC). Now won't start at all and makes huge banging noise every turn

With underbody badly rusted I figured it was time to let it go.

I have enjoyed this car very much especially after doing the wastegate actuator modification which turned the car powerful all the time.

I have locally offered to spare some parts prior to sending it for scrap. The car is in Quebec, Canada, should anyone be interested by something, although I have limited faith I could wait much time for removing parts (it's taking parking place at my mechanic's place now!).

Now entering shopping mode, but Jeez after a couple years without payments, it hurts the budget to shop for new stuff!

Bye

Well could the answer be an identical 300D 2.5 Turbo?

You could then use what you have on the old car for future repairs.

If it hurts to pay for a new new car then I say don't! Buy an old one - and if you're happy with what you've had previously use the knowledge that you gained over the years to get another good one.

Why waste knowledge? Why waste money?

Here is one from the South, it will likely not have as many rust issues. It's in vstech's home town.

Good point indeed. I would consider a 98 or 99 W210 Turbodiesel in decent shape. Hard to find, but I am in no hurry!

I don't think I will go back to W124 though. I am parting out the old one now. The only part I have trouble sending with the car is the vacuum pump which had cost me several hundred $ from what I recall.

Bye
