Hi
My 1988 300d has become difficult to start and the glow plug light does not illuminate. I have found a large fuse near the glowplug control unit which is intact. What should I check next. Is there a seperate relay? Many thanks David Wells |

We should get all of us with glo plug lighting problems together for a party. I have two of my three MB's struggling with that right now. Having checked the fuse, you might look at the other two threads (current) and go in order.
I believe the next things on your list would include: Instrument bulb (if the car is starting properly) Glo plugs (if the car is not starting properly) Don

This is something that has happened overnight. The glow plugs all give the same reading and get hot if connected to a twelve volt supply. They are all in first class condition.

Not sure about the 1988's, but my 1984 took a GP relay last year when it stopped glowing reliably. It did give a good bit of warning, not glowing intermittently for several weeks (or was it me procrastinating and being lucky that the car started in 50 deg F weather?).
My mechanic said something about an ambient air temperature sensor in the GP relay, couldn't find anything wrong in the two days he had the car, but sold me a used GP relay for $30; no problems glowing since.
