while i really like the idea of the thread, i have been looking at alot of the posts, and not all the posts are turds. some may be over priced, but not all are turds. just cause some one modified them with rims, paint or whatever doesnt make them a turd. it means that the car doesnt fit your style, tastes, or whatever. sorry rant over.

PS you can gripe about the price of these old diesel benzs going up, but really thats just a good thing for us. it means the ones that we own are only going up in value. kinda like buying guns. solid investment. better then the stock market or the bank... just my 2 pennies.

eatont9999 04-28-2013 07:54 PM

Some modifications are pretty tasteless, I must say. Mis-matching rims, ugly paint, and a "body kit" make these elegant cars look like a Frankenstein rice burner from the movie Fast and Furious. The kicker is that no real maintenance was done, the car runs like crap and the interior is either trashed or modified into some ugly and stereotypical style. The seller usually wants bukus of money for the car since so much was spent on the modifications. The problem is people buy these cars because it is a "Benz," spend a ton of money on mods and then realize that the car needs actual maintenance and then it goes up for sale.

Look at cars from the past that were considered radical departures from the norm. The 30's Chrysler Airflow was deemed the Pontiac Aztec of it's time , the 40's Buick Wildcat show car was considered way out there. Looking at them now they are not considered too far out there.

The is also the constant cry that cars today all look the same and cars from the era that one grew up in all looked different. When growing up one has more time to look for fine details that make cars look different, as time passes one stops looking at the fine details. As an example, look at the radiator grille of a 1928 Chevy , Ford and Dodge , they all look the same to someone that isn't familiar with them.

Aesthetic automotive design is a tricky thing, it must appeal to a wide ranging audience in the span of 10 seconds and keep the attention of a smaller sub set for 4 + years.

Oh contrair morfrayer! A simple case of apples y naranjas. Follow please...

Design=tricky=true=certainly. Millions+years=meesagrees. But the journey=the rub.

I look at the current landscape and most if not all jap trashcans induce nausea. Same for bloated and helpless sundry domestics. Geeeee, next year do ya think ya can make a camaro with eleventy-billion horsepower? Little clarity before butthurtedness runs amok. Yes even trashcans slapped the threepointer roll down the highway, so there. In droves too! And I have NSX's and supra friends. Neener neeners :P

RANT ON my brotha. Helps with the fine tuning.

Not sure I'm seeing the appreciation in value as you are( I did say my eyes aint the best) but man CANNOT AGREE MORE on the solid investments tidbit. Ermmm, except my last build, well I kinda got swept up and overpaid 3 to 4 hundy and I still gotta mill the lower and get it coated! OUCH, two large stacks n I still can't empty any of my ten new clips errrrr "rebuilds."

Howzabout that Finklestein err Frankenstein err whatever that bag calls herself. Keep trying to ram that bill through, someday right? you only got, whut? a decadeorso left. Waste it away in futility. [wilson] HaHAAAAA! [/wilson]

Small suggestion tho: don't ruin a good post with mention of casinos, rackets, ponzis, krookid shenanigans and so on and soforth. Allow the feeble minds there bliss bloated pleasures, but no need to point out the wreckage from train destroyin shortbus. Blessings come in all varities :winkwink:

another turd .. 4 Mercedes Diesels (all 123 body)

Quote:

4 Mercedes Diesels (all 123 body) - $3000 (broadway/campbell)
I am moving and getting rid of my too many projects. I have 4 Mercedes diesels. They are all almost identical and 95% of the parts are interchangeable between the cars. They all need some work but all were daily drivers of mine at one time. Basically the short story is that there are enough parts to make 3 excellent running and looking Mercedes. I list a brief description of them below but for more info just call me. I know each of these cars intimately and will go through them and explain what each one needs and what I would recommend to do to get them back on the road. I really like these cars a lot and want them to go to a good home. I would really prefer to sell them all together. If you are mechanical and want to get into bio diesel you could fix them up and keep your favorite (hint: the one with the manual transmission) and easily make a good profit from the others. They are all basically rust free and there are enough good body parts for 3 cars with some left over. None of the cars has more than a very small dent anywhere on them. I think all the glass is good except 1 crack in 1 windshield of the 4.

1978 300D - 5 cylinder 3 liter, auto transmission. 300Ds have power everything and sunroofs.

1979 240D - Upgraded to 5 cylinder 3 liter, auto transmission. Has manual windows and no sunroof like all 240Ds.

1980 240D - 4 cylinder 2.4 liter, 4 speed manual. This is super rare. I have never actually seen another one with a manual in the US. This model is in the Mercedes museum as the highest mileage car ever. They have one with 2.7 million miles on it that was a cab in Greece (not a typo). Because of the manual it gets incredible gas mileage. Even though it is a 4 cylinder, the transmission makes it faster than even the 5 cylinder turbo. It has manual windows so they won't break. It even comes with a Yakima rack. If you drive economically it can get just over 50mpg. Thats for a big luxury car, not a Honda Civic. I will absolutely not part with this car unless all the others go too. I will probably be kicking myself for a long time letting this go. You may never see another one. :(

1983 300D Turbo - 5 cylinder 3 liter Turbo. Power everything and sunroof.

Just call me for more info there is to much about these to list here. I have some parts and expensive specialty tools and 2 manuals that go with them if sold all together. I'm not looking to make a killing on these, just pass them on for a reasonable price to someone who will appreciate them. If you buy them I will be available anytime to answer questions and give advice on any problems you run into getting them on the road. I know where to find parts reasonably and where to get any info you could need if for some reason I don't know, which is unlikely.

I'll take some photos soon and put them up here.

This diesel-engine Benz has seen better days by far. It is OVER 30 years old but yes, it still runs. I use it to make short trips in and around town with little to no problems. I wouldn't dare drive it for long hauls because I don't know if it would give out on me or not. I drive it about once a month so that it is not just sitting around. I stopped fully driving it last year when I bought another car. I fixed things on it as they needed it; i.e. Brakes in 2011. Not much went out on the car. It's just really old and everything probably needs to be replaced. Technically, the car has reached "collector's" age since it is over 30 years old, but because it's an original German made car, it will be an expensive project for someone to make it like new. Please give me a call if you are interested.

-sorry 3500 is the asking price-

makes me feel like i got a real deal on mine...lol

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Even a mother couldn't love that coupe. And I've been known to save some pretty awful abuse cases!

Here's my contri:

82 Mercedes 300 diesel 6 cylinder auto116 miles originalstation wagon

I do love how that lower paneling just POPS tho.

4k?!?!? On what planet? OIC must be the 116 miles. Talk about LOW Mileage. OK. The rest of the car is yelling 250k+ in some sort of cryptic tongue. As well as rejecting the cluster transplant it recently received. Strange.

O and would someone mind deciphering the body of the ad please. Six hours and I'm still stupified.
