I love the "If it doesn't sell by Friday, I'm raising the price" crap a lot of these dealers pull. If you want to sell a vehicle quickly, you ask a low price for it. Why would you ask a low price, then hike it up for no reason other than it happens to be Saturday. It's just one of those cheap sales pressure points most of these shady dealers use to sucker someone in. My response to something like that is: "You can keep the car on Friday, Saturday and the rest of your life because I ain't interested!" |

With all the work of putting the engine back together, this is a $500 parts car. I saw an SDL not long ago that was running and driving listed for less.

I tell ya, been watching what I consider a disturbing trend grow amongst the populace recently and online classifieds serves as a microcosm of sorts to the bigger picture. I'm referring to the pandemic-like accretion of DUMB! Idiocy, stupidity, ignorance, whatevs... Shining example right here with this '87 SDL. Who thinks to sell a car with the engine torn apart? It's not a '32 highboy or a Shelby Cobra. BTW why IS the head off? According to you "When running, car ran and drove great!" I don't even need pictures at this juncture. Already stole a minute of my life. OK I might go down there to check n make sure no one left any jewelry or rare coins under the mats. Naaaaaaahhhh, can't be THAT stupid, can they? So now subtract cost of a tow from offer. Hey, maybe he adjusted his asking accordingly. Right. Nahh, no thought at all going on in there. From the lack of planning with whatever engine issue sprung up to "hmmmm, this looks to difficult/pricey to continue, maybe I'll just put it up on craigs n offload it to a "Mercedes Enthusiast."" MFW!, pull your head out and go back to school. You must acquire the fundamentals first before moving on. Just like 95%+ of the garbage that gets posted on their servers, it only succeeds in being wasteful. (n spreddin mo stooopidipidee) Does anyone else remember when craigs was useful? MBZ123 PS. Here: Mercedes 300SDL 300 SDL Now that's more like it. Or if more detail is what you desire try this: 1987 Mercedes Benz 300 SDL - Diesel Car |
MBZ123,
You are right. The engine was taken apart (presumably) as a result of some sort of failure. I for one would loathe the task of un-f@ck1ng someone else's head gasket/whatever they were doing job. For that I expect a very low starting price. Not pay the price of a running and driving car but also have to assemble it. |
I feel bad for this guy and I hope he isn't on this forum - 1979 300D mercedes 113k

The valve pocket just below the nut crater looks like it was hit by something.
This motor can run again with that piston, gven the condition of the car. I'd remove the nut, check that cylinders valve for sealing, pull the pan and inspect the rod bearing. ( When something impacts the piston it can damage the bearing in the long term. ) |
I'd put it back together and drive it. Long term isn't in this car's future!

Gets an estimated 39mpg all day long. $1900 drives away with it. 5one7-five2five- threezero threezero. Those that know these cars and how few were produced will see the potential in parts harvesting alone and make a reasonable offer. No trades whatsoever. Cash takes it. Seriously, let's not waste each others time." How can you drive this and have any decency at all? http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/...9878021b3b.jpg |
