85 300CD What is this A/C hose called and where can I get one?

Hi,
Didn't post this on the correct forum. Attached is a picture on an air conditioner hose from my 1985 300cd. It's leaking somewhere to the left of the fitting with the blue cap along the rubber part, and I need to replace it. This seems to be a very hard to find part. Does anyone know the name of it, what the part numbers are and where I could order one online? I ordered recently from Pelican parts but it wasn't the part that I needed (or what I thought I was getting).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

vr,
Kurt

Looks like your suction line type is for a 1985 Cali motor, the Federal style is routed different.

Did your car have a 85 Cali motor before or had the 85 Cali turbo in it and then changed to a federal turbo setup?

I'm not sure if this car had the engine changed. The turbo unit was changed last year with the donor turbo coming from another car. I'm not sure if that was a California car or not. From what I know of this car, it didn't come from CA.

If I can get a replacement hose, does the dash and evaporator need to be removed? That is a big task beyond my current abilities. Thanks again for your help.

Kurt

Judging from the position of your auxilary water pump, it sure does look like it was a Cali vehicle. But a VIN check will tell for sure.

At any rate, the hose leads to the expansion valve. You can access the other end of the hose by removing the passenger side under dash knee panel. You can take the hose to a/c shop that can rebuild the hose for you. Basically they would reuse the fittings and install a new hose. Or use your vin and get the part number through the EPC and order one through the dealer or aftermarket.

Where exactly is the leak? If it is in the rubber part, or at the sleeve, you definitely need a new hose. I have them (rebuilt) for $50 + shipping.

I would need the parts from your old hose (plastic sleeve, rubber donut, metal fitting at TXV) as a core (to use on the next hose I make).

If the service fitting is leaking, that is different. You would need a new fitting, or maybe just a new schrader valve. If your compressor is noisy, leaking, or not working properly, I can supply you with all the needed parts to run a Sanden style compressor.....Rich

Also, you have the Federal air cleaner, so I doubt it is a Cali car. The hard line looks like a Cali version though, as the fitting on the hard line should point a little down, and the rubber hose should go under the air cleaner intake.

Let me rephrase that- The car may be Cali, but the air cleaner, turbo, and manifolds are Federal. Either way, the hose length is the same.

Actually, the hose length is not he same. The Cali hose is much shorter than the Federal hose.

Looking again at the photo, I agree and stand corrected. However, if I was to replace it, I would use the longer hose (51") made for use with the Federal air cleaner.

Yes, I agree. It would eliminate the stress from bending and rubbing around the air cleaner. But I would consider changing out the hard line also to the Federal unit with the correct angle to accommodate the longer hose.
