Yes, there sure was and I picked up a set of crows foot wrenches, a set of extensions and some stubby wrenches. Back at the hotel made the adjustment and ran the A/C all day today. Turned out not to be the adjuster, just the belt stretching.

...more later

Today's run was from Bentonville, AR to Albuquerque, NM. Cruised at 70 mph. Had a head wind of about 35 mph almost the entire day and a run from 1000ft to 5600ft overall including a stretch over 7000 ft. and even so got 27.1 mpg for the day's effort. For the trip so far: 2560 miles, 83.32 gallons for 30.72 mpg overall average.

One final leg tomorrow of 800 miles.

Couldn't be happier with the way the car performs.

Here's the trip altitude profile

Please don't break that car on this trip. You have a date with us on Saturday! Try to bring many other members and their MB's back with you to join us on the cruise as well. They are in need of a road trip I am sure....Rich

Heading back through Phoenix this afternoon. Should be there at around 2. Will be fueling at Flying J at I-10 exit 137. Will update later with a more definitive time.

That is an engine bay I would glady eat lunch off of. Gesus, Im not sure Ive ever seen anything that clean that was actually in use. Wheres the river of motor oil going from the cap back to the firewall with the spray all over the hood pad?

Kudos to mach4 for the swap, and for the condition of the rig!

Back home after a great road trip. The last leg was brutal with unseasonably warm temperatures and very strong winds right square on the nose. Here is the performance final tally: 3533 total miles, 108.65 gallons fuel and 29.6 mpg overall.

Note the effects of wind and altitude: The run from Albuquerque to Phoenix was 423 miles almost all downhill and it produced 36.4 mpg, while the last tank from Phoenix to San Diego was 332 miles and produced 24.2 mpg due to the extreme headwinds.

Had a chance to meet up with SquiggleDog in Phoenix at the Flying J. Had a great time talking Mercedes and projects.

My conclusion is that the SL and diesel combination for a daily driver and cross country road trip car is excellent. The diesel pulls all day long without a hick up and only ran out of juice at the high altitude 6% grades. (But I obviously didn't do this swap for high performance )

Added about 1/2 quart oil and about the same tranny fluid during the trip.

I'm ready for another road trip any time.
