Just a quick drive-by update.

1. Trailer hitch replacing the old bumper/step I'd thrown on there temporarily before.

2. New reverse light mount.

3. Vice - has turned out to be incredibly handy!

4. View of my ugly welding on the trailer hitch. Those plates were beveled and then I made eight or ten passes to get full penetration. I've jacked up the back end of the truck from that hitch and nothing moved in the slightest.

5. Current flat bed condition. Clean and pristine didn't last long. Girlfriend not happy, she helped paint it. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY FRESH PAINTED FLATBED?!?" Uhm, it's a truck?

The paint looks fine to me??

That vice has to be worth it's weight

I like those backup lights, but the lens will yellow in a couple years. Hit it with some UV-stable clearcoat or something to keep it from oxidizing.

Yeah, the paint looks fine to me too, for it's intended use, but it is a lot different than the pristine gray it had when first done. Oh well, it's not the Sistine Chapel.

The backup light is already starting to yellow, thanks for the UV stable clearcoat tip. I should get some on there pronto and maintain what clarity is left.

My Official OM617 Toyota Pickup Repower Thread

That flatbed is sweet. Im sure you have a headache rack on your list too. If it were me that back window would be gone already...

Hey I used to have those same rims. Does all the backspacing make you nervous for your balljoints? Someone tried to tell me that but I never had a problem.

And one more question. What are you drinking here? Is that a monster white Russian or chocolate milk?

Thank you! Yes a headache rack is on the list, that window has had some close calls......... The reason the wood is just piled on and not stacked neatly and then strapped is because I'm only going a short distance at low speeds and not on public roads at all.

The rims came on the truck. If they're going to cause issues with the ball joints, it hasn't become apparent yet. I drive this truck ~5k miles per year, ball joints are $40 for the set and easily replaced. Just not a huge concern for me.

In that pic, I'm drinking tea. I make it strong and add milk, much prefer it to coffee. The glass was custom engraved by my girlfriend as a gift to me.

Oh good - we're back on this thread

How's the engine going at the moment with all that oil running through the fuel?

Are you going to clean and paint up the new engine - make it groovy...

Lol. First time I put a kayak through the back window i was like "ohhhh headache rack, i get it."

Sweet. Thats what I said. I think my friend just wanted the rims. Lol. Ok maybe not friend.

The mystery is solved. If it were chocolate milk I would be like "thats kinda creepy." Lol.

And nice mug. I had to make a comment so this thread pops up in my participated feed. As well, send it to my buddies with Toyotas.

My brother used to drive around with his sea kayak bungied to the roof of his Fiat Panda - didn't have a roof rack just a camping sleeping mat. Sea kayak was about 20 foot long - Fiat Panda was about 11 foot long...

...headache racks not necessary...
