Price range for W123 and W201

Is it financial suicide to get either a W123 or W201 diesel , both in "exceptional" shape where "everything truly works", has been checked out PPI'ed, and both cars have low miles?
Specifically looking at a W123 Diesel from Nevada with under 90,000 miles. and a W201 Diesel from the same general region also with the same low miles.
What would be a reasonable price to pay for low miles and one in exceptional shape?

A few weeks ago my buddy got a '99 E300 TURBODIESEL with 110,000 miles for $8,000. It had $3,000+ in recent repairs (receipts included). That is the going rate around here for the better 210's. The 123 would be a different story. I have seen these priced high and low. A low mileage (provable) rust free 123 could go anywhere from $3,000 to $7,000. These are harder to find than a good 210, so I would jump on the 123 if it is in fact low miles and in good condition....Rich

Depends on the model. 240D < 300D NA < 300D Turbo. A very nice 240D is probably worth at most $4000 Private Party, whereas a 300D Turbo in pristine shape with low miles could go for up to $11,000 Private Party (however, they come down fast). I don't know much about W201s, but I'm guessing 2.2 < 2.5 NA < 2.5 Turbo.

Location also changes things. Where are you located and what models are you looking at? You might even post a link to the ads. We love critiquing ads .

Whatever you are willing to pay. I'd say the opinions of others are meaningless as to value. Especially the tightwads on this forum. Folks seem to act like there's a steady supply of these things around. They stopped making them over 25 years ago.

Arrange for proper insurance coverage. It'll be a rude awakening to be offered $2,500 for a car you just paid $12,500 for because that's what 'similar' cars sell for.

The financial suicide is making a daily driver out of a time capsule. You're free to do it but you're no further ahead with a garage queen than with a well maintained driver.

I'd pay a lot more than 4000 for a good clean rustfree no excuses 240d.

No problem here on the "left coast" (CA). Get on CL and make a deal, fly here and drive home. My neighbor got a cream puff- garaged- excellent- old lady owned example for $3,000. The R12 A/C even still worked!
