number 5 made me start the whole process. Its been burnt out since shertex bought it I think.

I've got 6, 5, and 4 out on the ground. 3 is free of the threads, 2 has begun to move, 1 will be the final.

Its been a rubber hammer to a ratchet wrench with a 12mm deep socket moving from 1 oclock to 11 oclock. Wham click wham click wham click. spray penitrant. Wham click, wham click.

Also I need the stupid breather tube connectors before I can button her up. grrrrrr.

Oddly, #5 was working intermittently for a while: sometimes the glow system functioned perfectly normally, other times there was a fault. But over the last several months there was always a fault.

For the future... this is a proven much better product than PB at about the same price. Aeorkroil

I mean is the appearance of #5 the result of its own failure or because something else is going on in the prechamber?

Well if John uses it...

I will get some

By the way and for future reference. The key to getting these glow plugs dethreaded is not a massive amount of torque. Its impact style force. I could fit a 3 foot extension on to plug number 4 (thats the easiest plug) and as I applied even torque to the plug I could feel the shaft of the plug screaming in agony as I pulled. The hammer and ratchet method is much safer, the plug's shaft doesn't have time to bend. I'm not saying its perfect or it will prevent all broken plugs, I'm just saying that I have found this to be a truth when dealing with extremely torqued metal.

I think the problem is forcing that charred carbon on the ends of the plug up into the sleeve the glow plug sits in... so, perhaps you can rise the piston up near the top of that cylinder, and fill the cylinder with PB/aeroKroil let it soak for a day or so, then use hydraulic force of the piston pushing on the glow plug to force it out? DO NOT USE THE STARTER!!!, just try pushing on a hinge handle off the crank bolt... I'm just thinking out loud on this one...

What I have found so far is that the plugs will come out, it just takes agitation once the threads are released. On number 5 I actually hooked up my power drill to the plug once it got he point where I could spin it by hand. I spun the plug with the drill for a moment or two and it slid right out after that.

I'm going to look through the plug holes and see what I can see. Final recommendations TBD.

number 3 is not free of the threads. It is broken at the shaft after bolt head, it felt like it was free of the threads, its broken. Woo Hoo!

now to study how to free the broken plugs. Probably just drill it out right? riiiiiiight.

Well an easy out might work if the plug is below the surface of the casting

This thread has reinforced my determination never to do my own glow plug work.

As long as you're in no big hurry to do your own DIYing, AND you have multiple cars/rides as well as heated/cooled garage space and a few tools - I don't see the problem with tackling your own GPs.

You can always have it towed to your indy if you run into something you can't finish - is how I look at it.

I'd have my CDI apart right now tracking down it's glow-plug issues, if I had another car. I'm considering picking-up another nice 06 CDI, so's I've got something else to drive while wrenching on this one, as well as perhaps a couple three more CDI parts cars to cannibalize - once the prices drop to a reasonable-zone.

I'm all-in on these CDIs.
