alternate use of the magnet would be to put strong magnets on the underside of the pan hoping that it will hold the little metal piece to the bottom

I wonder how the part broke.

That is a pretty strange thing to happen. Are there signs (on the end that you have) that the dip stick was bent this way and then that way...

...and then this way?

It doesn't look like it does it?

I agree... very clean...

are you sure it was there before you pulled out the stick?

it's possible that the PO broke it, or "improvised" a dipstick for the trans from a different car...

That is the embarrassing part. I don't know for sure. That was the first time I had ever checked it and it made a weird noise when it was coming out. It may have already been broken/missing.

I do not think they improvised a dipstick as it has the correct P/N 1262700083

where is the part number? on the cap? they could have swapped in a stick that fit the length to the cap from another car's stick.
lemme go pull mine and snap a pic of it as well...

mine looks identical to yours...
no markings at all on the end.
straight section approximately 2" from first bend, which sways into second bend, then a 1/4 turn twist.

I took a picture, but it's slow getting it online.

That is weird. I looked in the manual and it said that it should have markings.

do you have a picture from the manual that shows where the markings should be?

I bet anything, it originally had a plastic nose on it.
I'll pull the stick from one of my wagons, or a parts car. should have the same stick I'd think, or similar anyway.

There was no picture in the manual, but it talked about them in it.

It was dark, but I did not notice any wear marks on either side

the ones in the pictures have a ball like curl to the end... mine and yours do not.
I may pull my pan and see what 's in there... maybe I'll fix the lack of park/reverse while I'm in there...
