The striker assembly has to be removed. From there scrape out the remnants of the old hard plastic insert. Mine was kind of disintegrated and came right out short of cleaning some sealant out of the pin hold.

Did mine today. For such a fast and cheap little fix, it's quite satisfying. Did the CD and the 240, nice to have 'em close so easily.

This was my first mini-project on my new/old 85 300TD. Very satisfying! I had to spray some kroil on the bolts to get them out. That stuff is amazing.

I noticed a few people mentioned marking the original position of the housing with permanent marker. I didn't find this necessary; instead I just reattached it loosely and opened and closed the door a bunch, tapping the unit up and down until the connection felt direct. It seems like this is a better route than drawing on your vehicle.

I bought the locking eyes directly from their site about a year ago - it was a little wonky and difficult to navigate but the order went in and the stuff got here reasonably promptly and there was not a huge shipping charge. I think the whole order was less than $20 including shipping and it was enough for four doors. They were set up to take payment via paypal.

Maybe the 65 figure for shipping is in baht (Thai currency) rather than US dollars?

Would be nice if our forum sponsor could make a bulk order of these parts - no doubt they'd sell; almost every one of these old cars I've ever dealt with needs this part. Another option is to get a rear-door striker at the JY that's not worn out. Or get the whole striker brand-new; they're not that much.

Has anyone been able to purchase these recently? I searched eBay with a variety of search terms but found nothing.

I bought some on 10-01-2015 and they really fixed my problem. Here is the email for the eBay seller: autopartsprofessional@gmail.com

Good luck.

FWIW, I purchased four new strikers from our forum sponsors this week and was very pleased. Ordered on Monday, with three day standard shipping and they were here already by Wednesday. I would strongly consider going that route, as they are only 15-20 bucks apiece (can't remember exactly and too lazy to look it up). I also ordered four new bolts (out of a total of eight). That was good, because a couple of them needed to be replaced after loosening and tightening a couple times.

Fair point, but unfortunately the only strikers available at that price are URO brand, which is universally recognized as pure garbage. I'd rather have 30 year old genuine strikers with new "locking eyes" than new URO strikers. They show Genuine MB strikers as "NLA" - I'm not sure if that's really the case or if they're just out of stock.

I just ordered two sets from the Thailand company- but the site said my total order would be $89- $24 for the two sets and $65 for shipping. I paid with Paypal and they asked for the total so I put $35 which is $11 for shipping. I'll update here as I get info.

So I paid with paypal $35 and asked for two sets. He shipped one set and "shipping" was 90 Baht. It's $12 for the parts and $23 for shipping. He stopped communication after I pointed that out because he knew he was ripping me off. parts were fine, btw.

Replaced these rubber parts in my 240D a few years ago, and they did not last.
Looking to replace them again - anyone have any credible sources to order from?
