I was thinking of cutting a hole in the floor on my PU, and having a box made to fit the hole and welded up. then a lid to cover the box, to keep my tools in when I go into PNP. Sometimes I don`t need all the tools, and I learned they will sometimes magically disappear. Had this happen one time by the Skum Bags that loiter around the yards. Got over $100 worth of tools.

So this makes me a potential Felon HUH? Felon in training.

I suppose a key could be taped just under the rubber corner pieces on either side of the front bumpers. The top side where the flat piece is. Or under the rubber piece on the rear bumper. This is on a w123.

SO where is DiametricalBenz? Haven`t seen him around in a while.

Charlie

I don't have my 95 E300D anymore, but at the time I had the perfect key hiding place.

I put the Key in a small Zip Lock bag, and stuck it inside the housing of the outside manually folding mirror.

There is plenty of empty space there, and causes no interference with the remote function. Its totally unobtrusive, and very convinient to get to when needed.

Worked perfectly.

+1

I'd use a lightweight zip tie and attach it to the fuel line where it attaches to the in-tank strainer. Out of the way enough to keep the thugs away, but near enough a simple lay down, reach, snatch takes care of it. Hence the lightweight tie that wont damage the hose when its yanked.

Up until my '99 E300TD, I kept a magnetic, slide clasp Hide-A-Key with a door key under the rear bumper assembly of all my DDs except my prized '77 Corvette I bought new.

I should devote the necessary time to get another magnetic H-A-K container on my CDI.

The Ford 7.3 PSD has a very hidden door/ignition key in a slide H-A-K container since I bought it 10.5 years ago.

... since I've locked my keys INSIDE the cars I drive before, I now keep spare keys to whatever I'm driving in my left pocket as well as the standard keys I keep in my right pocket... sometimes I have ANOTHER spare set in my jacket...

I second this even though I don't own one of these keys. I have seen it mentioned in some documentation I found in the junk yard. Since the keys are SS, you could use a strong magnet to hold it on any steel part of the body/frame.

For stock W126 owners, it is pretty difficult to lock the key inside the car since you have to have it to lock the driver's door when you are outside the car.

I've never been able to keep any magnetic hide-a-key box to stay put on any of the vehicles I've ever owned. They always come up missing when I needed them. Maybe I should quit driving like Bo Duke...?

I never once locked myself out of my w123. I lock myself out of my truck all the time (spare in the wallet )

This is something I think about a bunch since I can easily lock myself out of my 1972 220D.
There *was* a H-A-K compartment sitting in the front bumper but it's gone now, probably thanks to a few big potholes in Nashville, on the drive from New Mexico to the east coast.
The area just inside and under the hinge of the fuel door seems like a great place for a hidden spare key on a W115. Out of sight and easily accessible when needed. If the key were to fall loose, it wouldn't fall to the ground either, instead it would just rattle around near the fuel filler neck. Seeing as I'm in New Jersey a bunch, this could be an issue because it's state law that we can't fill our own vehicles with fuel. Maybe when I move to Philly.
I'm also thinking that a good place for a spare key would be zip-tied to the top of the arm which holds the subframe bushing. It has a depression in it so it would be very hidden and since that piece doesn't really move, it wouldn't interfere with the suspension.
