123w Gauge sizes?

Has anyone measured size of the gauges? I'm looking to put some after market gauges in and wondering if anyone has?

I've seen gauges on the A-pillar and in place of the radio and ashtray. There's other electronics behind the triple gauge so customizing is difficult. Maybe you can move the innards of after market gauges and repaint the faceplate... The most I've seen done that seems reasonable is fitting a boost gauge in place of the clock.

The diameter of the face of the outboard gauges is 90mm, of which about 87mm is exposed.

Diameter of the speedo/odo is 114 mm ± 1 mm with 1.5 mm ± 1 mm hidden on the outer diameter. The depth, from the face to the speedo cable receiver, is 95 mm ± 3 mm.

They fit almost perfectly into the center vents, I installed mine with a small PVC shim.

I need to replace the speedometer. I have a sd trany that has an electronic sensor instead of the mechanical one my gauge is set up for. I can buy an after market gauge from autometer that will work for the price a new cluster will cost. In fact I can build a whole new cluster for what my junk yard wants for it.

I'd personally try to fit the SD drive of an old gauge into the w123 dash. There's plenty around on the forums and even ebay.

I don't have any SD pickups right now, but I'm sure you could get someone to pick one for you.

I have a spare 'SD speedo as I'm converting to mechanical in my car. I'll post a couple pictures shortly.

Here's two. Please note that the W123 gauge is round but that I have already trimmed it to fit the W126 here.

Here's a thread by JamesDean that includes lots of pictures of the gauge in question. I'm not sure if this can work.

Why replace them? Here is what I did : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5d3tfC5DkXE

Cost for boost + egt + arduino is under $200. About to add tach (just need to work out the code) and water injection (I expect this to cost me ~$20).

If you get a W126 speedo, make sure it's for the same diff ratio as in your W123.

Has anyone ever tried to make their own cluster for this car? If it wasn't my daily drive I would just pull the darn thing and figure it out myself. But could have a new plastic backing cut and put my own gauges in in what ever size I want?

Figured out for anyone interested. I'm going to buy some and plastic off amazon cut it into a 4 1/2 circle. Next I'll cut the hole for the new gauge, I'll then plastic weld it into the back of the cluster. For the sensor I'll use this after market sensor that uses 4 magnets attached to the drive shaft. Total cost will be around $210.

$210 for just the speedo is less than the junk yard wants for a cluster???

But I have no speed sensor for either cluster. So I'm going with the auto meter gps speedometer
