If you haven't already found some, make sure you get two additional retainer nuts and bolts to attach that mount. The 616 with the manual trans used two and you'll now need four. I neglected to remove them from my parts car before it went to the crusher and ended up spending far too much for them. They're NLA from the dealer.

IT'S ALIIVVEEEEE!
Thanks to Delivery Valve and a well-timed exchange of the right mount for hte wrong mount (I'll send yours out tomorrow, thanks again!). One thing though, and this seems to be a theme with conversions, I get a LOT of engine vibration in gear when the Rpm's start to come down (tach not working yet/ever), I'd guess between 1300-600. Had the flywheel match-balanced, and the driveshaft professionally balanced. What could be causing this? Don't have an engine shock, just fresh mounts. Could the lack of engine shock cause this?

Congratulations!! Glad you got it running.
On the shake - mine didn't so I don't have much to offer. I'll assume that all the mounts are new and that the fuel system is fully purged. I don't have engine shocks and am using the aftermarket mounts (not filled) and as noted mine is pretty solid. I'm not sure how big a player the shocks are in a stock body. Dan |

If the shake is only in those RPM ranges I would guess it would be injector and/or air in fuel system related.

Yes the mounts are new. Not an air in fuel issue, I know those all too well from years of running WVO powered vehicles.
Could it possibly be an injector? I was thinking maybe it was an issue with the lower mass flywheel from the 616, maaaaayybe it got balanced incorrectly? Dude really knew what he was doing so I doubt it, and I made damn sure I installed it with the correct reference marks etc. It's a pretty violent vibration. I'm kind of stumped ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yet again reviving my thread here, garaged this thing for the winter but now need to get back on the issues. After all of that work having that vibration issue killed my motivation to troubleshoot until now. Still dealing with the vibration in the lower RPM range.
My best thinking so far is that when I modified the IP as per some instructions on STD (sorry don't have source available, but it involved removing something and turning some screws, which now I wish I'd never done - so long ago I've now forgotten), I did something incorrectly :/ My worst case scenario is that it's an issue with the match balanced flywheel, but in listening to the engine idle and pulse at idle (but like 70% of the time, not all the time) that the two issues are likely related. My best option at this point - I believe - is to put another unmodded IP on there. So this post in multi-fold: -Does my thinking sound sound to you? New IP and pray? -ANYTHING else that could cause this low RPM violent vibration, given all info in previous posts? -Do you, sir or madam, have a good condition IP you'd like to part with? Have a want-ad in the classifieds too... Thanks a mil!

I am not going to go back through your extensive thread. Do you have the same symptom with the clutch depressed?

Just learned about the rack damper adjustment and it made a HUGE difference!!!! But, did not fix the problem. Engine no longer lopes at idle and returns to idle much quicker, as it should, but intense vibrations are still present at the lower rpm range, whether in gear or out. More and more I'm thinking IP, there is a metallic sound that I would liken to a worn out pulley bearing that seems to be coming from the IP. Things are loud so it's hard to track down sources of sounds, I'll try to stethoscope it some time soon to see if I can narrow it down, but does anyone have experience with a metallic/screechy/bearing noise emanating from the IP? Of note, this sound DOES go away mostly or completely once the engine is warmed up, it's very loud though at start up. Greazzer has another IP for me, so hopefully we can do that transaction, and I'll let everyone know how it goes...

We need more info on the conditions when the vibration occurs. Driving or stopped, in gear or in neutral, clutch in or out, and all the possible combinations. In all gears? Only when slowing down, not when speeding up?
I'm doubtful that the IP is the cause. Check your motor mounts to make sure they are both 100% correct and tight at all points (and the arms to the block).

Why would you be doubtful the IP is the cause? What about the pinging and squealing sound coming from (I'm pretty sure) the IP when cold? I'm wanting these things to be related, but it's certainly possible that they aren't. Motor mounts are brand new, I will definitely check that everything is tight and correctly positioned, though I'd be hard pressed to think they weren't.

GUYS GUYS GUYS I FIXED THE PROBLEM! I FIGURED OUT WHAT IT WAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After over a year of completely hanging this project up because I could simply not wrap my head around what was causing teeth rattling vibration when coming down in RPM, after fitting the thing with brand new engine mounts and transmission mount. My worst case scenario playing in my head was that it had to do with an error in the match balance of the manual flywheel to the 617's crankshaft, and that I was going to have to pull the crank to have it matched to the flywheel and by that I mean sell the car as a mech special because I've put too much work in and don't have the kind of time I used to have to tinker... BUT ALAS!!!!! Whilst crawling around under it yesterday in one absolute last attempt to troubleshoot, thinking it HAS to be something simple, and after randomly dreaming the night before that I did indeed solve the problem, I found it! I had not removed the t-mount from the original 616 engine, and it was up against the back of the oil pan putting a lot of pressure on it, acting as a rigid interface between the engine and the frame crossmember. There it was, plain as day. I unbolted it, the engine dropped about an inch into place, and now it drives like a dream!!!!!!! You can maybe tell this all excites me, because this has been a year and a half long headache that I was pulling out hair trying to assess the cause of. Visual inspection missed it so many times because it looked like it belonged there. It further explains why I had such a hard time wiggling the engine into place in the first place. Anyway, I appreciate everyone's help along the way, and now I can get back to the rest of the restoration, and even driving the thing for pleasure once in a while ![]()
