which oil extractor?

who uses which, and why? I'm looking at everything from the "top sider" from northern tool that kent from Mercedes source endorses.

LiquiVac Topsider Oil Changer | Oil Extractors| Northern Tool + Equipment

or the mighty vac units

Amazon.com: Astro Pneumatic 7342 Manual Fluid Extractor: Home Improvement

I'm even considering a 12 volt unit

Amazon.com : Shoreline Marine Oil Changer, 12 Volts : Oil Pump : Sports & Outdoors

thanks for the advice in advance, I don't have access to a compressor so im limited to the manual pump devices.

Don't know about your 92, but on the 617 engines, the dipstick tube is the suction tube. i.e. you do not insert a suction tube inside the dipstick tube.

I use the Topsider and have been pleased with it. I use it on my 77 300D, the wife's Lexus LS430 and the Bad Boy mower. Works great.

There's no problem using an insertion tube for oil extraction, it works very well.

I've used a Temp Oil Boy for at least 15 years. Simple and durable. It has two tubes, I use one for oil and the other for transmission fluid. Unfortunately, now unavailable. Mityvac seems to be making a copy of the Tempo product as their "MV7400 Fluid Extractor":

Mityvac

The trick with these devices is storage: the tubes will oooze oil for months after use. The way I solved this was to get a length of copper pipe and solder a cap to the end. I clip this upright to the wall, and use it as a scabbard. With the Tempo, this is and easy process because the hoses are designed to be detached with a pull, and break into four foot sections. I think storage would be a problem with several of the units you've pictured. The Astro unit looks good, and seems to have a hose storage bin built-in.

I have used the Topsider in the past but use one of the 'manual' plastic tower ones (where you pump yourself).

If in your area you have a place with a pour-in recycling receptacle, the Topsider is handy because you can just remove the pump, replace it with a cap and go recycle your oil.

However -- and maybe it was just me -- I managed to twice lose the seal for the tank opening when I did that, and the pump won't do anything without it. The seal kits are pretty readily available now I think. The second time, I tried making one from generic plumbing rubber and it didn't work well.

Home made from a water pressure tank.

I put a vacuum on it to suck, then pressurize it to empty.

I use the topsider. Makes it a easy process. I would say change the oil from the drain plug every 4-5th time to get any grit out.

Only thing I dont really care for is it takes about 10-15 minutes for it to do its job and mine does need a few extra pumps during extraction.
