Running EPC with Java 8 Update 25 in Windows 7

Yet again, I can't run EPC. My Java is Version 8 Update 25. I have the three sites set as exceptions:

https://epc.startekinfo.com
https://aftersales.i.daimler.com
http://retailfactory.mercedes-benz.com

Any suggestions?

Turn the security level down to the lowest setting (temporarily) and see if that gets it to run.

If it does, turn the security up one notch at a time until it fails.

When it fails, pay attention to the error messages. There may be another exception you have to add.

Also try this: open a command prompt (start, run, CMD, enter) and try pinging the sites in question. The domain may be getting blocked by a firewall program elsewhere in your computer, or externally if you have your router set up for filtering, or if you use an external DNS provider like openDNS.

In this version of Java, there are only two levels: high and very high.

The only way to run EPC that I know of is Java 7 update 45 it has been that way for months. It was supposed to get fixed. It has not that I know of. This version of Java 7 update 45 works fine for me and is the latest that I know of that works. If it does not work all you have to do update Java.

I would guess not your version of Java is from a long time ago maybe the 80's. The problem is with the latest version and the security ver. 8 update 25 vs ver 7 update 45 works it is the latest update I know of that works on EPC. Your ver is 1 update 8 that is a very very old at the inception of PC's.

1.8.0_25 is version 8 update 25.

Version 7 update 45 would come across as 1.7_45.

I just uninstalled all versions of Java and re-installed the latest from their website this morning.

To check your version like I did, open the command prompt (start->cmd.exe) and run "java --version".

I'm running Java 8.25 under win 8.1, and have no problem with EPC. As mentioned, just set your security setting as low as possible, and work your way up until something breaks.

I just installed java 8 update 25 on my Windows 7 laptop and for the first time I am able to access the EPC. Previous attempts all failed. I recently did a complete Windows update, not sure it that has anything to do with it.

Now I need to learn how to use the EPC and get the most out of it. Where do I start? I had to enter the VIN of my 85 300D to get rolling, but I can't seem to get it set on the North American model, it always defaults to Japanese model. The numbers on drawings of the parts do not match the the numbers of part description ( on the left column).

Is there an idiots guide to getting started with this? I looked at it and was like wtf.

And I'm 30. I used to say I'm getting old and confused by technology but I see other people figuring this out.

I'm 45, certified middle-aged, programmed with Atari home computers in the 80s, and I'm also certifiably lost with this crap too.

Sorry JamesDean I was not familiar with that nomenclature with Java. That part was tongue in cheek anyway. There was a problem maybe 2-3 months ago where the Java update would not allow running EPC and ver 7 upd 45
was the last update that would work. This was the case for a long time. It must be fixed now.

I tried uninstalling all versions of Java (there were three) and reinstalling 8.25. Still doesn't work. The message I get is:

The call to EPC net or WIS/ASRA was not successful.

BUT...on my laptop I'm running version 7 update 55 and EPC works fine. Needless to say, I won't be doing any Java updates!
