Road Trip to Oregon and Maybe Washington?

Sorry about the short notice, but think I am leaving Friday for Portland Oregon and maybe even Seattle Washington area.

Reason such short notice is because of the University Administration and lesser degree, been a not so good week. Still waiting for the cell phone replacement to be delivered by Oops (a.k.a. U.P.S.).

I have an assortment of wrenches, pliers, multitool, the factory tool set, emergency kits (automotive/human and dog), tire compressor that plugs into the outlet, folding shovel, blankets, flares, bungee cords, gaffer tape, bailing wire, five prefilters, one main filter, tire chains, tow strap, fire extinguisher, spare bulbs, power inverter, I think I remembered what I have packed. Anything else you can think of?

Figure if I can't leave in the morning, just will stop in Needles, California instead of Bakersfield. I am avoiding L.A. by taking AZ Route 95 from I10 to the 140. Also, figure more scenic with all the rain we have had and don't think I will ever be through there ever in my life again. I40 then to the I5. Most likely will go over onto the 99 then back to I5, as I5 is a pain and not many places to stop. Oh, and know the Grapevine will be a pain, especially coming back, as have a lot of stuff I am hauling.

I will be leaving tomorrow and heading back on the 27th most likely, as have to be in Sandy Eggo on the 31st.

Anyone able or wanting to meet on the way?

Zip ties, starting fluid, fix a flat, duct tape, jumper wires, JB weld, reading material and a jet pack stove for making coffee. I don't mind breaking down, if I have coffee.

I'm a fan of carrying a weapon. Haha.

A blanket/sleeping bag.

I'll probably think of more.

A window washing kit so if you run out of money you can make some quick cash? Hit up the mom and pops stores for $10.

AVoiD La

I would avoid LA traffic by taking 58 at Barstow to ButtonWillow on I5. Much easier than going through the big city.
At least that's what us gearjammin, country music lovin, CB'in, nomads of the highway did.

Walking isn't a lost art: one must, by some means, get to the garage.

North Portland here.

99E is super pretty through the northern end of the Willamette Valley. You can get back on 5 at Aurora, or follow it through the canyon all the way up into Portland, where it eventually becomes MLKJ / Grand Ave.

I did forget about zip ties. Believe they are in there somewhere. I wish I had one of those stoves, but not doing enough camping to justify the cost. For me, I am fine so long as my blood sugar is normal.

You did remind me I forgot to put in the plotter paper tubes. They are to be used as breaker bars, as really strong.

As for weapons, my Service Dog will be with me. Does provide some intimidation factor and Ember has been real good about alerting, though try to be in before too late.

I always have at least one blanket in the wagon, one goes in the storage compartment under the cargo floor.

Mike, thank you for the offer!

Sounds like a plan! I just have to figure out what is what in regards to seeing my cousin.

I know, I started one. I was more thinking out load rather than desiring to start on that topic.

Pelon, thank you so very much for the help!

Is 58 better than AZ95?

Do folks still use CBs? I was told not anymore so didn't install mine.

Sam, thank you so very much!

Thanks for the offer.

So get of I5 at Heyesville, then 551 south of Aurora back to I5? They are on the west side, so bit more tricky.

If you need to be on the west side, that's how I'd go about it so you don't get stuck trying to get across a bridge.

Depending on what time of day you hit the city, 5 can get pretty **** on the south end. Barbur Blvd is a good workaround, though it's not real fast.

At this point, not sure when I am coming in. Some trips I make good time and other trips I don't. However, I am grateful and thankful to know about work arounds.

Which way is traffic going? Here it is from Phoenix and radiating out, mostly east bound, for after work.

Traffic sucks both ways, but if I had to pick a direction, 51% of it is headed out of the city in the evenings. It's not Seattle bad, so don't sweat it too much if you hit at rush hour.

Thumbs up

I'm in the northern part of Vancouver, WA if you need a hand, a cerveza, or tools.

I would suggest also adding F-4 tape (Self-fusing silicon tape; we used this stuff in the USAF for almost anything, just amazing. Nothing like it to actually patch repair a leaky hose well enough to drive as far as you need to (hours if need be) for a replacement.) You also insulate wires with it and more! Here's an example: http://www.amazon.com/Dorman-25329-Silicone-Repair-Tape/dp/B003P9OZ0Y

I've never had too much of problem taking I-205 around Portland except at the most heavy times. Though the drive on I-5 you get to see the inner part of Portland with the copious amounts of rivers and bridges; Land of Water, indeed.

Where are you cuttin over from 99 to 5? Wasco? 99 goes all through the cities. I only use it to get to 223 south of Bakersfield. And don't head into sac at rush hour. And def not on the 99. And keep your doors locked going through there. After sac is good.

I realize now, sac is Sacramento.

Dropped Pin

And idk, I always have to call and check in mother when on the road. Usually the one that nags more.
I get it now! Thank you so very much!

So stick to I5?

I was born in Cali, had family in Kern County (not sure if any Kliewer family is left, though like to check at Hodel's if Peninnah is still around). Also, got folks in the Chico area.

Well, will not help now, but good to know for later.

Well, before I left, had an accident and broke the passenger side of the windshield. Slipped and hit my hand trying to put the vent in. Long story, but felt I needed to rest up. Last night got very little sleep. So, will get everything packed today and get to be early tonight.

Plus, y'all are so helpful, figure take the time and plan right.

There are fuel stops every 30 miles on I-5 between Bakersfield and Sacramento.

Sixto, thank you so very much!

Yes, but south of Bakersfield on I5 is where I remember there was no stops. Also, I remember there was a lot of traffic and couldn't go the speed limit.
