Road Trip to Oregon and Maybe Washington?
Sorry about the short notice, but think I am leaving Friday for Portland Oregon and maybe even Seattle Washington area.
Reason such short notice is because of the University Administration and lesser degree, been a not so good week. Still waiting for the cell phone replacement to be delivered by Oops (a.k.a. U.P.S.). I have an assortment of wrenches, pliers, multitool, the factory tool set, emergency kits (automotive/human and dog), tire compressor that plugs into the outlet, folding shovel, blankets, flares, bungee cords, gaffer tape, bailing wire, five prefilters, one main filter, tire chains, tow strap, fire extinguisher, spare bulbs, power inverter, I think I remembered what I have packed. Anything else you can think of? Figure if I can't leave in the morning, just will stop in Needles, California instead of Bakersfield. I am avoiding L.A. by taking AZ Route 95 from I10 to the 140. Also, figure more scenic with all the rain we have had and don't think I will ever be through there ever in my life again. I40 then to the I5. Most likely will go over onto the 99 then back to I5, as I5 is a pain and not many places to stop. Oh, and know the Grapevine will be a pain, especially coming back, as have a lot of stuff I am hauling. I will be leaving tomorrow and heading back on the 27th most likely, as have to be in Sandy Eggo on the 31st. Anyone able or wanting to meet on the way?

Zip ties, starting fluid, fix a flat, duct tape, jumper wires, JB weld, reading material and a jet pack stove for making coffee. I don't mind breaking down, if I have coffee.
I'm a fan of carrying a weapon. Haha. A blanket/sleeping bag. I'll probably think of more. A window washing kit so if you run out of money you can make some quick cash? Hit up the mom and pops stores for $10. |

AVoiD La
I would avoid LA traffic by taking 58 at Barstow to ButtonWillow on I5. Much easier than going through the big city.
At least that's what us gearjammin, country music lovin, CB'in, nomads of the highway did.

North Portland here.
99E is super pretty through the northern end of the Willamette Valley. You can get back on 5 at Aurora, or follow it through the canyon all the way up into Portland, where it eventually becomes MLKJ / Grand Ave. |

You did remind me I forgot to put in the plotter paper tubes. They are to be used as breaker bars, as really strong. As for weapons, my Service Dog will be with me. Does provide some intimidation factor and Ember has been real good about alerting, though try to be in before too late. I always have at least one blanket in the wagon, one goes in the storage compartment under the cargo floor. Mike, thank you for the offer! ![]() Sounds like a plan! I just have to figure out what is what in regards to seeing my cousin. Quote:

![]() Is 58 better than AZ95? Do folks still use CBs? I was told not anymore so didn't install mine. Quote:
![]() Thanks for the offer. So get of I5 at Heyesville, then 551 south of Aurora back to I5? They are on the west side, so bit more tricky.

Depending on what time of day you hit the city, 5 can get pretty **** on the south end. Barbur Blvd is a good workaround, though it's not real fast. |

![]() Which way is traffic going? Here it is from Phoenix and radiating out, mostly east bound, for after work.

Traffic sucks both ways, but if I had to pick a direction, 51% of it is headed out of the city in the evenings. It's not Seattle bad, so don't sweat it too much if you hit at rush hour.

There are fuel stops every 30 miles on I-5 between Bakersfield and Sacramento.

Yes, but south of Bakersfield on I5 is where I remember there was no stops. Also, I remember there was a lot of traffic and couldn't go the speed limit.

I would cut over 126 or 166 to the coast and not smell cow poop.
I don't think this helps. But when I goto Vegas from here (coast) I go 166 east to 99 north to Arvin. Turn right at a lettuce field, go through town, a little mountain, and pop out 15 miles east of Bakersfield. Don't forget to check in with mother. |
