i have to slam hard to get it to fully close.cant see what needs to be adjusted or fixed.any tips.?the lock and key work fine.progressively requiring more slams to get it to fully close

First, try greasing the latch mechanism. (not WD-40 or such)

You might possibly need to replace the striker. Below the guide pin hole is a rubber wedge. If this is broken off or starting to disintegrate with age, it will be hard to latch.
