Ok thanks.
Shank length doesn't always mean the same thing, but it seems on lug bolts it does mean the distance from underside of ball to end of bolt. And it is 39 or 40mm. Overall bolt length of 61mm for Febi vs 93mm for original, is quite a difference. But presumably a standard impact socket will still reach and fit inside cavity?

I bought 1 OEM lug bolt from the dealer $6.50 it is has the 40 mm shaft and 20 mm head. A deep socket reaches it fine but like Shertex mentioned in another thread it takes some getting used to not seeing the head of the bolt.

I found a used set of bolts that came off a 1995 W124. They are a bit longer overall due to extended hex, but otherwise same shank & thread it seems. Hope so anyway - they are on the way!

the other problem with the new style bolts is that you need to carry a 17mm socket and 6 inch ratchet extension to start the bolts on the W210 wheels. My fingers maybe fat I presume because I have seen them in other cars and I thought - hmm - it'll be a fight to install those when they have a flat tire.
