Seems like the guy's name was longer than that... perhaps he had been a moderator here for a while.... had a great series of instructions with regard to auto transmissions....and perhaps other stuff.....
anyone remember ?
I think you mean Steve Brotherton of Continental Imports. If you google you will find his site still active with lots of info.

No idea if he answers questions.

As I understand, this helped to support the Forum.

That and using Mercedes name rubbed them the wrong way.

When it was Mercedesshop.com, it seemed to be a different forum compared to now.

I feel it is totally wrong when someone gets irritated and or banned, to delete all their
Threads and their contribution to the Forum.

Some just fade away and their online name etc... is still there. So if looking for a thread they started and you
remember their name, makes it easier to find the info.

Some delete it and it just says "Guest" where their name was.
There is always Google to search for the info anyway.

How many of you have your "Mercedesshop.com Grill Badges?

Charlie
I still do and an oil burner Kartel badge that I need to fix the mounts for and put on my CDI

He's got either a car lot or a repair facility down in Ocala, or Gainesville, FL.

Cho, there used to be a story that Gottlieb used "Mercedes" because the word Daimler has some double-entendre in German that could be taken in a negative way.

Any truth to that, or just urban legend?

I found this little tid bit of info.

Found this about the Daimler name poking around in Google.

Gottfried Wilhelm Daimler (1834-1900) - German co-inventor of the automobile
Older variations of Daimler include Deumler, Teimbler, and Teumler. Not exactly a name-meaning desired by someone dealing with cars, Daimler is derived from an old southern German word (Täumler) meaning "swindler," from the verb täumeln, to overcharge or cheat. In 1890, he and his partner Wilhelm Maybach founded the Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG). In 1926 DMG merged with the Karl Benz company to form Daimler-Benz AG. (Also see Karl Benz above). More: German Inventors

Looked up Gottlieb and found this.

Gottlieb (German for "God's Love"; see also Amadeus (disambiguation), Bogomil, Theophil) is a German name that may be used as a surname or as a male given name. The name Gottlieb was created in the 17th century, in German speaking parts of Europe, as a product of the age of Pietism, as a way of naming young men with a religiously charged name

Looked up the name Mercedes and found this.

Means "mercies" (that is, the plural of mercy), from the Spanish title of the Virgin Mary, María de las Mercedes, meaning "Mary of Mercies". It is ultimately from the Latin word merces meaning "wages, reward", which in Vulgar Latin acquired the meaning "favour, pity".
