Can anyone confirm this one: 5 speed trans cross member
Hello,
Is the following part # 123 242 26 01 the "real" or correct trans cross member for the W123 with the elusive 5 speed Getrag 717.400 tranny - diesel application? My current five speed uses the 240D cross member. I have another complete 5 speed set-up (not installed) and that cross member from a known 5 speed car and the other one look totally different. |

The attachments may, or may not help.

Thank you Sir !
That is what I stumbled into on EPC, then I found something on South Atlanta MB which says the part goes to gassers... The W123.130 is the 300D non-turbo, diesel, so I am guessing it is probably it. A good old climb under the car to visually line it up is the best test in many cases. The overall problem is that I just joined EPC a few days ago, and I have not really figured out the system yet. Plus, my last few repairs and mods has taught me that MB had A LOT parts which "fit" but are different. |

You're welcome.
The epc is a strange beast indeed. It took me a while to figure out what I have so far, I still don't fully understand the system. I opened it and clicked on search, then at the top it has options, I click on "without vehicle data", a window opens and I punch in the number, no spaces, then in this case did not use any filters, such as North American, or car/truck etc. You see the result. EDIT: Oh and it's not always right, I have entered a part number from an MB part that I', holding in my hand, the result is "nothing found", go figure.

It says A 123 242 26 01 as the "correct one" for the 5 speed, diesel, which is what I have, so it may very well be the right one ... thanks again Stretch !

I physically have one in hand, new or I should say NOS. I will post a snappy tonight. I might drive the o'l girl on some ramps and do a visual. Right now, it's 100F and I'm a sissey ...

And just one week later, here are the snappies ...
I think it's the correct one. We've had 100F or hotter weather ... but this weekend it's supposed to dip to a chilly 90F, so I will do the old skool line-up method with the car on the ramps. |

Recommend you also have new bolts and captive nuts for the install. On my 123.190 with five speed, when I replace the rear engine / trans mount, I had to drop that support, and one of the captive nuts was too rusted away and just turned freely, so I had to get a little medieval on it in order to get it free.

LOL ... I've had that happen on the original car which had the 5 speed.... I think VSTECH got primitive on that ... My current car has some rust but pretty decent shape overall, but I think that's a good idea. Will try cracking the EPC code this evening ... Thanks !

When I crawled under my W201 to fit my five speed mount I found that only two of the buggers fitted for the four speed mount...
