Removing an ADA from a NA 300D

Asking another question on an older "smog" device....Not sure if anyone has ever done so and what the results are??

An ADA comes on non turbo engines part # 278 in photo...

So I have a euro and US spec car. On the euro there is no such thing and I only get black smoke on really steep grades but letting off the throttle reduces the smoke...

On the US spec car I get zero smoke but I SWEAR judging by the speed in the euro I shouldn't be crawling up an incline at 35mph...

This is a used ip that came from a JY car...the ADA was capped when I installed it....later the little tube started leaking oil...odd...

Well that should be enough info as to why I want to remove it...so that A I have full control of fuel and B hopefully a little increase in power...

The main question, has anyone ever removed one? and would this cause excessive smoke at all speeds/altitude....also wondering if I have to cap where it came off?

Here's a pdf that explains this odd feature...

I must say, that is the easier mod I have ever done with the best results!

So slowly I grabbed the wrenches and breaker bar and started unscrewing this odd thing....not knowing what might fly up and get lost to the sands of time...

Whats this...no flying parts? Must squirt oil three feet in the sky?

Nope no flying parts, no oil dripping...notta!

There are photos below...Its bad no ifs or ands about that...I think what happen is that oil, water, dirt etc gets sucked into this mysterious thing and eventually corrodes/rust as we see in photos that eventually the diaphragms won't contract any longer....its something that happens so slowly over time that it isn't noticed or its from sitting..

I noticed a whole hell of a gain in throttle and power! Starts are even better...

I then expected the cylinders to be flooded with fuel and tons of black smoke to roll out....well guess what nothing! Full flooring it front of the house nothing! Freeway drive nothing!

The car is even idling better now that the fuel isn't restricted by this odd device...

Its interesting to know that this controls the stop lever! I can just barely push down and the rough idle comes back..

I tossed this into the spare parts bucket and will more then likely dremel it open and place the hollowed out ADA back onto the car for looks and I don't want anything to catch on the rod...though I doubt that circlip will be flying off...

Not to fear if anyone would like to replace this for what ever reason....the part number is A0000702153...

If anyone has a NA 300D 240D 200D or type MW IP, I urge them to go out and remove this thing....go for a spin and see if you get the same results!

I know how to back off the throttle if I see a black cloud up going up a hill and I practice this on the euro with the type M pump but with out a turbo there is really no need for this odd device on the IP any more...

Now I got to go back to that darn climate control! I am determined to get this system working! I "had" a new servo n computer....now I have 3 servos, 4 amps and maddening urge to get the heater to turn off lol Had to come in as I was getting sick of being ate alive by ***** flies because the neighbors dogs turned the rear yard into a huge litter box....forget any outside activates...should have see the BBQ yesterday....like were in Ethiopia...

I think this was a good ideal and perhaps n/a diesel owners might consider it if their 0-60 speed seems substandard. Besides the common throttle linkage problems as well.

I have a chance to buy a European 240d with a five cylinder n/a engine in it from the factory,.Must have been some form of special order as I am pretty certain it was delivered this way. Makes me wonder what the rear end ratio is. It is a 1977.

Some rust apparently and the owner is 85 years old. Car has an interesting first owner. A member of a terrorist gang that he left Germany for Canada. Where he got killed probably by the police. Car sat in impound for perhaps years before being auctioned off. I got a set of brake pads for the current owner many years ago.

I could only wish it had the five speed as well. It has the automatic. Green cloth interior and sunroof but the best part is it has only 100k miles on it pretty much for certain.

Or you could simply back it out 1.5 turns and never open up the ip to elements/dirt/humidity

If you look at the diagram it is impossible....also "if" anything gets in...it will simply get into the oil supply....be filtered or burnt off by the engine...I doubt that nuts/dirt/rocks...etc can fall into a gap the size of a human hair...

The nut is just a collar nut...just keeps turning....

Also yeah you could turn the screw out...but if the diaphragm is rusty/corroded and/or swollen....that won't make a difference...

Oh FYI my buddy who just got his license a few months ago, who first drove this car and never any other 300D....said he couldn't believe the power, told me he had to be careful of the throttle....noticed it as soon as he pulled out of the drive way...

There you go, I have three people telling me that there is a huge improvement...

A member also reminded me if you want to see what this does to the engine/fuel....hook up a vacuum pump to the port....start the car and apply vacuum...you'll see how it slows the engine down...

This is just another thing that was required on US bound cars...

done, I feel some discernible difference, a bit more torquey/rev-happy. Hard to say, didn't notice huge gains in the adjustment as I only backed it out in 1/2 turn increments.
Thanks for the encouragement.
Is it known as to whether I could bolt on an Alda in its place once I turn up the pump to limit black smoke at low rpms?
As it is now, on b100, no smoke, not even when it was n/a.

Ah yes, and I zip tied the corner of a plastic bag over the hole in hopes of limiting intrusion of any foreign matter
