Absolutely love it. For the money I can't think of a car I'd rather have. It's quick, unusual and economical. Also very receptive to mods...even stock it competes against the Cayman/boxster S, z06 vette etc. in autocross.

Ya know... Hot rod mag did an article where they bolted in a Z06 427 cubic LS7 and drove the car around a track...

They remarked how easy the upgrade bolted into the car...

Yup it's a popular swap, but to be honest for the money and work I'd just buy a C5 and go from there. The sky is better looking but you'll get a lot more for you money.

I drooled over those at the Saturn dealership as a younger man. Someday maybe I'll get one when the prices come down a little more! My dad wants one since it has an Opel pedigree.

They're under 10 grand (for the redline, which I def recommend) if you shop around a bit and play seasonality in your favor. Solstice GXPs are slightly cheaper and more available if you like the looks.

My only complaint is that it is GM, panel fitment is generally awful and some of the parts are kind of cheap and flimsy (search for passenger seat airbag sensor...something GM refuses to recall). It's also not quite as nimble as the Miata but is much much faster.

Most have been very well maintained and low mileage examples are more common than high simply because they're summer cars.

There was no vauxhall version. The styling was based on a vauxhall concept, but badged as the Saturn Sky in US and a daewoo in korea, Opel in Europe. Pontiac solstice is the same car but different body. Designed and built in the US.

All the examples on the left coast consistently are listed for $12-16k for nice ones. Less than $10k will get you a salvage title or one with 100k or more miles.

Nope, those are based on the lotus Elise oddly enough, and are mid engined. the sky is a GM bespoke chassis, front engine rwd. I wish we had the vx220 over here!

617 might be a bad idea, but a 1.9 TDI ALH? Combined with a 6 speed manual? I could see that as a cool swap

Someone could use some advice here

Hello Jooseppi, there is a recent thread here about a diesel swap into an ML. Maybe you have some tips for that individual

That is a good swap. ALH's are plentiful. The only thing not plentiful is acquiring a set of clutch pedals for an '80s front drive A body.

The great thing about this car is you can drop the engine cradle subframe and mock fit everything on the ground.
