Where to find glow plug wiring?

Hi, new here, frequent reader first time posting. Not sure if this is the right spot to post, but hopefully y'all can help me out.

What I'm trying to do is find where I can buy a new set of glow plug wires for an '83 Mercedes, specifically the wiring that runs from the relay pins through to the plugs. It's the actual wire ones, not the coil spring.

I've looked everywhere I know to and I can't find them anywhere. TIA

EDIT it's a 300D, forgot to mention

they are super easy to rebuild if you have any soldering skills.

I agree, these are NLA even from the dealer. If they were, probably cost more that you paid for the car LOL.

Check the wrecking yards for a set off a wreck, a 300D Turbo or SD will also work on your 83 240D if that is what you have.
Just eliminate #5 wire.

Welcome to the Forum.

I made up my own and they work just fine. I ran wire (IIRC, #12) with crimp-on connectors and shrink tube on all connections. I'm just using a relay (no timer) but I'm sure this can work with the timer as well. Pics on my build thread.

I don't know if the parts are still available but Mercedes uses the same sized 2.5mm pin bushings (mercedes parts number 002-54-99-26) on other things besides the Glow Plug wire harness.

the "eyes" you can get at any auto parts store.

On some of my Glow Plug Wires after the exit the harness near the Glow Plugs the insulation has cracked or come off completely. I coated the exposed parts with liquid elctrical tape.

Perhaps not the best solution as the stuff is messy and does not coat evenly and you need like 3 applications to get coverage that insulates but it works. It could at least keep your wires fron shorting out till you make or get better wiress.

also, if you rebuild it yourself... DON"T USE WALMART OR MCPARTS STORE WIRE!!!

get high temp auto rated insulation with micro strands.

like here for instance! SXL Wire - Crosslinked Wire - Wiring Products

When I built my harness for my Frankenyota, I used spade terminals instead of rings on the GP side. Means you can loosen the 8mm nuts instead of having to remove them entirely.

Not a huge deal in a comfortable shop with a concrete floor and warm hands and lots of time. Out on the gravel driveway with snow on the ground and more coming down, with frozen/numb hands, not having to completely remove and potentially lose and then rethread those itty bitty nuts is hugely helpful.

I love my heated shop! And I'm old enough to have a built-in excuse to not work outdoors though I did plenty of that in my younger days.

oh, I wouldn't say it's a good source... just a site that shows what type of wire you want to use. HOUSE HOLD WIRE IS NOT APPROPRIATE!!! nor is the walmart/autozoo stuff. you want proper microstrand high temp oil resistant automotive wiring. it is not cheap! shop around and find the best place for it. check local places for the wire.

here's a deal on #12 GXL high temp red and black 25' each.http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-AND-RED-12-GAUGE-GXL-AUTOMOTIVE-HIGH-TEMP-25-FEET-EACH-COLOR-50FT-WIRE-/121393048151?hash=item1c4396ea57:g:zEwAAOSwbqpT0SH~
