Never buying NuGeon remanufactured brake calipers ever again. BAD.

Third time buying NuGeon Reman brake calipers.

third time having issues with them.

Everything from worn out threads in the hose bore to misalignment with the rotor - in one case, the nugeon caliper that I bought would not even fit on the knuckle without grinding it down to clear the rotor.

Very poor quality control.

Do not buy.

Where did you buy them from?

Not too too surprised, we went through 3 calipers from NAPA before we got a good one for a Mighty Max,you'd sure HOPE there would be better quality control especially on something as important as brakes but nope. The threads were completely stripped on one set so they couldn't of even tested it if they wanted to.

Kinda scary.

Good tip, thanks. I'm just about to do a brake job, and was thinking about trying out these guys - Phoenix Brake Co. - Brake Calipers for any vehicle. From airplanes to trucks to Dump Loaders.
I contacted them almost a year ago; not sure if things have changed much with them since then(?). The following is part of their response:
"From your description, the end result would be semi loaded, and they would be $65 each, takes a day, and we immediately ship back. On Mercedes Benz models earlier than 1990 , I like rebuilding the originals, because it reinsures fit and proper function! If you would be able to send all four, I could ship back on us. We reinsure perfect seal. Thanks"

Has anyone ever dealt with these people? Any opinions? I am pretty sure I got their name from someone on this site... ...but, I can't be positive about that.

That sounds quite nice. Good philosophy.

Hope they live up to it.

The calipers I have would be great candidates for this but time is of the essence.

the Napa near me did not have access to rear calipers for w123 wagons. 300td

I have a friend who worked the parts business - he sold remans from A1Cardone and Raybestos.

the failure rate was low. (or at least the returns to his store were)

Exactly, they obviously don't test them at all.

Reminds me of the alernators/starters,my suspicion is they buy cores from salvage yards and clean and re-paint them, then throw them in boxes and label them as "rebuilt".

My Dad needed a starter for a Mazda 626 a while back and the parts store went through 4 of them before one tested good.

If it helps, I bought beck/arnley front calipers and so far (2 years), no issues.

I don't think they're the best value... And I could've done better... But they feel good and no issues.

Hoping the Duralast rebuilt calipers I got for my brother's 300SD are good. They looked great but who knows.

I just put a pair of Raybestos calipers on my car (rebuilt Bendix) and they're fantastic. My only gripe was that whatever paint or coating they put on them created the slightest bit of a lip around one of the bolt holes so the bolt wouldn't go in. Took two seconds to fix, so a minor head scratcher for a moment is all.

I was definitely worried when I was shopping though, with all the reports of poor fitment and shoddy work on rebuilt calipers.

Except that they were pricey, so far no problems with the Cardone rebuilt rears I got from CarQuest four years ago, for my Euro TD. I used to be able to find accepotable parts there when all the other local McParts places couldn't cut it. But now CarQuest has been gobbled-up by Advance Auto, and Brinson, my local Indie MB parts store has folded. Then six years ago, the Pep-Boys Mexico-rebuilt alternator I put on my 240D turned out to be absolute garbage. So for several years now, both my diesels have been successfully running used alternators provided by a friend. And now it sounds like PeachParts my not be so reliable. After all the shoddy-parts threads I've seen lately, I may have to just buy used or rebuild my own.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Although better than nothing, I caution against using information based on calipers (parts) purchased 4years ago, or even 2years. The replacement parts market has changed constantly over this period with companies buying their suppliers, forcing other companies to buy from alternate suppliers, mergers and acquisitions, parts going out of production and being sourced in a LCC, etc.

So much is changing, buyer beware and read well the markings on the boxes and parts.

I had this same problem with them in a set I bought in November. When I got time to put them on in December, I discovered the hose threads in the hole were wallowed out too much to tighten up the hose with out stripping the threads on the hose. The caliper was replaced with no shipping, but the car was down for a few more weeks until I had time again to finish the job. Fortunately, I had another Mercedes I was able to use.
