So much is changing, buyer beware and read well the markings on the boxes and parts.
That's why I dislike ordering by mail/online. It's especially frustrating not being able to inspect the parts or finish a job until after several shipping-days!

Any other time, this would be acceptable. If someone pays for overnight shipping, you'd think it would be in your best interest to inspect the parts you are sending them if there are known issues.

Or some kind of disclaimer... ? its just ridiculous. I know it happens on reman parts, you can't always get everything perfect but it's misleading to offer a product at the same level of expectations as new parts.

Is it really cheaper for a retailer, in the long run, to ship bad parts to customers instead doing their own QC once issues arise? BS.

I was definitely worried when I was shopping though, with all the reports of poor fitment and shoddy work on rebuilt calipers.

thank you. I am looking into these.

I'll take that issue any day over what I have experienced with these nugeons.

Hey jt20, I skimmed through the 18 posts and might have missed it, but what car was this for?

Second question were there any names stamped on the calipers like Ate, Girling, or Bendix?

Sorry, I should have put that in there... I was mad at the time I posted.

They were for rear w123 300td wagon. I am under the impression that all rear calipers for 300td are ATE.

One of the calipers I received was a reman ATE. the other was some knockoff, unbranded but new caliper. very shiny and unused.

the reman Ate was the one with bad threads.

Nugeon has repeatedly given me weird calipers with no name on them just like in charmalu's thread.

I went to my local brake rebuilder/repairer to get a price for rebuilding mine. The cost was more than those rebuilt calipers available from this sponsor and that is taking into consideration no return of the core as I am not returning mine from here and shipping.

I just may have to pay the price to get my own ones rebuilt, at least I know my cores are good with no stripped threads.

'Remanufactured' once upon a time meant close if not better than new but it doesn't seem the case these days. Shame. I would still give feedback to PP.

Is it a big or difficult job to rebuild ate calipers (using the PP rebuild kits)?

EDIT - forget the question. did some more thread searching (sorry, i'm new).

I'm having a dilemma - can't trust rebuilts, not supposed to trust myself on rebuilding (or evaluating if they are even rebuildable), can't trust what a shop does (and they charge absurd money).

As poster mentioned in post #21 -
"I just may have to pay the price to get my own ones rebuilt, at least I know my cores are good with no stripped threads."
That is precisely why I was asking about the rebuilder in my post (#3); if anybody had used them. My thoughts are: I'd rather have my "virgin" calipers rebuilt; knowing, at least, I started with my original OEM(good, but showing signs of being at the end of their life) calipers.
I'm still leaning towards the rebuilder mentioned in my previous post (#3), and I will report the results.
I live near Tampa/Clearwater, FL, and will try to find a local 'professional' here - but, haven't had much luck locating one here yet.

Based on the OP, JT20, why did you buy them the second and third time?

I am hopeless optimist at times. I like supporting smaller business that are local to me.

This third time I really fought the decision, but figured it had been 5 years since the last incident, maybe things improved.

fail.

Got my replacement caliper from Pelican yesterday.

It is beautiful really. Nugeon uses nice quality seals and shiny pistons.

Just look at it.

a little closer:

hmmmm...? whats that? no piston? oh dear. shocking!

It's called "de-contenting". You're supposed to re-use your old ones.

I guess it is honest advertising...

The box clearly says "semi-loaded" caliper....

This is a joke - right? They did not really send you a brake caliper with a piston missing?
