I've just begun my voyage into these S class machines. I ask more questions than I should sometimes because the archive has just about everything you'll need to know to get by.

I'm 64 now and have had 8 heart attacks and two open heart surgeries. I can do a good day's work but it takes me a week to do it. I wonder how long it will be until I'm fed up with these classics automobiles, anyone willing to guess?

Which S class? If it's a W140 or W220, I'm guessing that you'll be done in about a week or two.

That made me laugh. I've moved the diesel from the 84SD to the 85SE. I love the 85 body because it's black and has the Alpaca Grey interior. I also love the 617 engines.

I have a question about the wiring on these critters. The FSM shows a connector labeled C100. There is no photo that I can find. Is this the connector located under the fuse bus in the bottom of the fuse box?

I don't have much need for help or parts. 2001 E320 gasser with 185,000 miles, everything works, has been a very reliable car for me. Also have a 2008 E320 Bluetec with 187,000 miles that has been the most reliable car I have ever owned in my 79 years. I did use this forum to learn how to change the fuel filter (thanks Jay Bob) and how to change the battery. I use an independent mechanic for the 50,000 mile transmission servicing. I wish there was more talk about the Bluetec cars so I could learn more about these engines -- which are fantastic to drive.

Facebook groups have really taken a bite out of forums. I'm in several Mercedes facebook group, and its an easier more convenient way to virtually congregate.

Don't worry. Still posting on here, going on 10 years now. Hard to believe I'm one of the original gangsters now.

Stopping by and saying hello... it's been quite a while.

I've moved back over to NW Arkansas again and no longer have an old Benz. I see some in need of love now and then pop up on Craigslist... but I don't have any time for projects right now. Maybe in a couple of years we'll pick another up. Anyway, nice to see the forum is still going.

Moved over from another forum. Asked same question there, and got only 3 replies. Over here not only have I had over 20 replies, my question was answered. If this is slow, would have loved to see this forum in its "hayday"

Diesel Discussion seems to be the jewel on this forum, where most posts are and most of the "brain trust" resides. Half the time when there's a significant question on Tech, it's a diesel, or a question that will be answered by someone with primarily (or only) diesels.

I don't come here much anymore either, going to the dealer for my 10-week/10,000mile check-up, ... and nobody here has anything good to say about modern M-Bs nor about the OM351.960, internet searches will turn up this thread now, ... previously pretty much no hits on this forum for W166 or for OM351, and none of them current nor useful.

Maybe when they get a bit older.

I got my truck for the most part sorted out and quit pestering you folks with newb questions. I still try and jump on every so often and contribute where I can to give back what I can to the forum. Having just the engine, in a non-MBZ vehicle, there's not much I'm qualified to contribute on.

I don't agree with much of the politics that get discussed here, so I stay out of the open discussion and political side of things.

I ask myself the same question. I am inspired by your willingness to carry on. I have had only one open heart and I'm 48. I feel like just putting the SD up on Craigslist sometimes and buying a Lexus. But what fun is that? I might as well be dead.

I saw Jay Leno in a YouTube vid today saying we don't really own these cars. You buy them from an old guy and then become and old guy and sell them to another younger car guy. The big picture is depressing.

Well that said I'm going to keep on doing what I love as long as I can. I just finished a hood pad replacement using Home Depot bubble foil and cleaned out all the leaves from the double firewall with my leaf blower. I ain't quitting.

Good popping back in here. This is still a great forum.

Yep. I bought my 1980 300D in 1997 from an old friend who was 91 years old. He bought it new, and took care of it like it was his favorite daughter. He even put in a new factory transmission just before I bought it. Now I'm an old guy. I still love the car but do not want to work on cars any more, ever. Fortunately good mechanics down here charge 10 dollars an hour instead of 100.

Ten bucks an hour for a competent mechanic, I would sell all my tools and probably get enough money from them to never need to turn a wrench again.

A little thread necromancy,

It's crazy to see all of the big names gone. This place was a party when I got my posts back in the day.

Miss you guys and my diesel. I own a 380SL now. Might go out and buy one in the not so distant future.
