Ok.. with new o rings and that center stalk clean..including the tiny hole at the side top..

Those o rings SHOULD ... but I think do NOT automatically come with a new oil filter... amazing lack of ( something )....by the OEM and aftermarket makers...

you should be in safe shape...

Yes, leave the glow plugs out. I would try to crank the engine by hand first; then, if it turns freely by hand crank it over with the glow plugs out using the starter to expel any oil possibly left in the cylinders.

Good luck!!!

I also recommend that the engine be turned over TWO Revolutions... with glow plugs out..

by HAND....

just in case... this has saved some serious engine killing conditions for other people...

engine manufacturers used to post the torque they expected an engine to require after a Rebuild.... to check to see if the tolerances were too tight.. etc... for an old American engine.... not over head cams... etc... just a plain vanilla .. it was about 70 ft lbs .. with it newly oiled as it was assembled ( or moly pre assembly lubed used which would not run off )....
But I have never found any indication as to what MB suggests our engines should require... or where the red flag would be..
EXCEPT they warn in the FSM NOT to use the power steering nut to turn over the engine...

Two years sitting usually is not a great issue on most diesel engines.

is there any benefit from wiping/spraying some oil on all the components on the top of the engine, with the valve cover off? thinking rockers, etc? just want to make sure it is all lubricated.
