I've gotten decent life (years, over 40,000 miles) out of Monarch glow plugs but will try Bosch or Beru the next time I need a set .

On metal ramps. By and large the majority of them are strong enough. Although there is one design that has diagonal metal support straps on the sides. .

Beware of these as they are known to collapse. The gauge of metal is not adequate to support the load properly. A result perhaps of a well established design of ramp but some manufacturer decided to thin it out by reducing the metal gauge too much.

The front end weight of an old diesel Mercedes is probably heavier than most cars. They have collapsed with much lighter front ends of cars. Do not trust them. I wish I had one around to weigh it and post what it is. They are fairly light in weight. They sold them in Canada so I assume they were sold as well in America. They still may for all I know.

Well. After much trial and tribulation I finally got it all back together and on the road by sundown of the second weekend. The new glowplugs solved the starting problem. It' starts fine now. Unfortunately the valve adjustment didn't make a noticeble difference to the severe shaking at idle or the constant vibration at all speeds. Though It does possibly seem to have made the car shut off a bit more smoothly. I'll drive it for about 500 to 800 miles or so and then do another valve adjustment. I'm not too sure about my skills in that department and I had a lot of "distratction" going on when I did this one. At least it's back on the road and I can drive it to work tomorrow.

If you're in Phoenix there should be at least one Diesel rebuilder who, once you remove the glow plugs, can test them while you wait .

No need to pop $200 for a tester.....

It's critical to _yank_ the pop tester's handle down, not ease it it down as that results in incorrect results : the indication of correct popoff pressure when in fact they'll pop off too low when you operate the tester corerectly .

A regular poster here has a you tube video showing how it's done wrong and claiming he's right .

You mean the injectors not the plugs right?

Motor mounts? Bad injector or two?

I know the previous owner changed the mounts a while back and the look to be ok from what I can see. They could be an issue of course but I'm inclined to suspect compression issues and injectors. I see no record of the injectors being changed in the last ten years and 130K miles and they may very well be original which means they are 35 years and 337 thousand miles old.

But I'm not in a position to get into them right now as much as I'd like to. Perhaps sometime in the new year if I get a chance.
