Sorry for the late response.
First off I truly want to extend my gratitude for everyone on this forum. Since I purchased my 78 240D nearly 20 years ago, I couldn’t have done anything to it without the help of the wonderful people on this forum!
The reason for the ‘bump’ of this post was the problem I had in my other post about how my shifter became jammed after replacing the shifter bushings and I thought that I may have needed the information in this post to help me. Thankfully by disconnecting the reverse shift rod from the shifter finger and putting the reverse lever at the transmission in neutral then reconnecting the shift rod to the shifter finger all is well now!
