Window Regulator Blues

Does anybody happen to know the part# for just the metal and rubber sill the window sits in that attaches it to the regulator? My 81 all four are totally rusted out. Manual regulators though are in superb condition! You don;t have to buy the whole regulator do you? I dug through EPC and could not find a part #for this individual part.

I had a scraping clacking noise at one time whenever I raised or lowered my driver side window. Took door apart and found that the channel that the glass sat in had rusted so that it splayed outwards and caught on other stuff on the way up and down.

I happened to have a set of doors off a 123 and was able to swap a good one in. Maybe that is your best bet - look for a parts car without rust that may have a good unit.

Otherwise, it could be that you have to buy the window with the channel attached?

Yeah all of mine were in the same condition as yours. I had to replace all 4 doors as the rust was so bad but I don;t have the rest of the door parts. I'll hit the yard and see but I think the 300D at the yard has electric windows. maybe the channels are the same!?

I always thought cars from the Carolinas were rust free

I think you will find the windows are same - You will need the glass + channel.

I have a set of manual 123 windows that look like that, I'm going to set them in a tub of rust away and see what happens... I got nothing to loose right?

The front on mine are rusted also. Now that I know they can't be bought maybe I will get in there and at least try to stop the rust.
I suppose at the very least some WD-40 spray on them.

It is a shame to have to buy a new/used piece of door glass. as Roy said and I have learned from taking these apart, the metal part is part of the glass put on at the factory. the glass and the metal channel are not each replaceable.

I replaced a L/F door glass in a 82 240D. was in the door to replace the door check, and noticed the metal channel swelled up with rust. so replaced the glass from a parts door I have. the rust had swelled up the metal, I thought I was going to have to break the glass to get it out. the glass has to come out at a angle as you lift it out.

A PNP complete door is around $60, door glass $40 +. Buy the door.

Anyone know which chassis numbers WHunter was referring to? And are these for electric or manual?

I found some NOS windows, but they are for manual lift. I need electric, passenger side front. My EPC is broken

Referring to post a few back.

Part number I find on eBay and other on-line sales for right (passenger in nA) side front window, is 1237202818. That doesn't correspond with any wHunter posted. Peachparts says they can't confirm that it fits my 85 300D.

I found someone selling a used bottom rail, but it was in Lithuania, had some rust and would have cost US$100 delivered here in Canada.

Found two complete used windows, but they were in USA and shipping would be high. Probably cost 2/3 the cost of a new one by the time they were delivered.

Ideally need to find something here in Canada, if I can. Or have shipped to border for pickup, but can't go there - Borders are closed during Covid.

Anyway, no rush. Something will turn up.

Just went through this on a 1978 300CD. You think trying to find windows are tough for a sedan? Try finding one for a coupe!

I ended up pulling the glass from the bottom frame, cutting the rusty bits and welding in some thin flat stock. Used some windshield urethane from 3M to replace the original rubber pinch molding. Use wooden matchsticks, tightly rolled bits of plastic wrap, etc. to keep the glass properly spaced from the metal rail both on the sides and the bottom. If you are lucky you can cut bits of the old rubber pinch to use for shimming.

There should be drain holes in the door. These get clogged over the years and allow moisture to accumulate.

I just went in and snipped off the pieces of the channel that were catching on way up/down. So it works for now, but probably not for long.

I contacted a Toronto firm that usually sells OE MB parts. They said the sedan windows were discontinued by MB in 2007. They offered me a used window from California with good channel. Still kind of expensive.

ADDED: Found a junk yard in Canada that has a bunch of old Mercedes parts cars including 123s. They have what I need for C$100, but it is a 6hr round trip and we are supposed to be staying home. Sounds like window is still on car and no idea of condition of rail. Too far to go to find out, especially seeing most cars in Canada would have rusted window rails.
