95 E300D (606.910) Fuel Lift Pump Rebuild Question
Hey All:
I am in process of trying to replace the seals in the lift pump of my 95 E300 and I have some questions. The first attachment is the EPC exploded view of the lift pump - I have added in the EPC labels and part numbers. The second attachment is my exploded view of my lift pump - taken off the IP and disassembled. The two don't really jive - in fact, I have only found one o-ring on my lift pump - #276 on the EPC diagram (presumably this is the o-ring for the screwed in fitting that it is directly below it in the diagram but not shown as a seperate fitting). Anyway, the main question right now is - where are these other o-rings? ![]()

Pull the Central Pin/Rod from the Threaded piece that the Arrow points to. I believe there is a Tiny O-ring inside of there.

I have been looking at a cross section pic of the Lift Pump. I am going to try top post a pic but I bought a new computer and my Old 32 Bit Photoshop program will not even attempt to load on it. So I am having trouble sizing the photo. so a pic may not be in this post.
Inside of the Pump Piston there is a Valve. What Seals that? There is also another valve at the Pump Outlet what Seals the bottom of the Valve against the Pump Housing? I am thinking they might use O-rings.

Bingo. That would be #270 (023 997 86 48). As seen in the attached pic. Good call Diesel911. The search continues. Thanks for the diagram. Edit: That one is kind of a booger to get out - I used a dental pick, it worked well.

Indeed Jimmy. I will piece togther DIY once its all said and done. I thought it would be fairly straight forward - and it is for the most part, I just got hung up on these o-rings. Once I get everything figured out, I will post it all together.

Anyone every replace the valves in the fuel lift pump???
Okay. So I needed to order another o-ring and while I was at it, I thought I would order the two valves for replacement in the fuel lift pump. Has anyone ever replaced these things (see picture)? These things seem to be pressed in and I can't figure out how to go about replacing them. I the process of trying to press one out I think I mucked up the housing
![]() See the pic which shows one new valve and the housing that still contains an old valve. This piece is internal to the pump. The other valve is in a screw on fitting on top of the pump and I think I might have killed that one.

I would be interested in a DIY as well. One day I may need to do the pump in my E300. Do you have a part number for the kit? Do you know if that is the same pump used in all the 60X engines? I had a 190D 2.2 and the pump looks the same. I have an extra and thought I would rebuild it for the E300 (assuming it is the same) so I would have it on hand if/when the pump goes bad.

I would think it is the same if you have the 606XXX engine.

Old thread, but in case you’re reading, do yourself a huge favor and just buy a whole new unit with the kit that includes the gasket and o-ring. Too much risk and time for too little reward.
