Today the car started smoking blue like crazy. I thought it needed blown out so ran it a bit harder.....more and denser blue smoke.

i do have a check engine light on and have had since I bought it.

I guess I'll take it over to the dealer and have them check it over.....good idea?

That doesn't sound good. Have you checked your oil and transmission fluid levels? If not, do so before you drive any further. Something other than diesel fuel must be burning.

Maybe this link will help:

Hoping for a simple cause: the diaphragm on the CC breather puck blew out and it’s sucking oil into the turbo.

It is smoking like a failed turbo seal. It also seems to be losing power some.

I talked to the dealer service guy today trying to get it in. He said I can't come in in less than next monday. He suggetsted it might be my converter burning off some collected particulates. Since no big warning light has flashed...? There is a check engine light on but that has been on pretty much for the last 7K miles.

Think I should just drive it and hope it stops smoking on its own?

Personally, I wouldn't do that. Do you know why the CE light is on?

My Indie checked it long ago and could not find an issue to fix.

so.....driving these new diesels around with an un-diagnosed check engine light is a recipe for disaster.

On the OM651 common faults are DPF pressure sensors, Nox sensor, or air leaks (intercooler hose can split and leak, or the seals for the hoses/air intake)

Driving around thousands of miles with it running improperly can lead to a quick demise of the DPF because it will be generating a lot more soot and thus tries to compensate by running a regen more often.

Depending what computer your Indy is using they might not have been able to full-scan the codes to find the exact problem.

How many miles on it??

Blue smoke isn't good, a heavy duty Regen usually creates some grey/white smoke from the very few times I've noticed it.

So I just took it out and drove about an hour and now it doesn't seem to be smoking, so I guess it must have been a particularity, pun intended, hearty burn off.

Get the code throwing the ck eng lite and let us know. It takes miles/time to re-gen a DPF. Are most of your miles around town? If yes then it never gets a chance to go through a full re-gen.

Not sure you would have got blue smoke if it was just the DPF regenerating.

Get those codes read - Dealer or a fully equipped MB indy will do it and should give you a printout and you could then post the codes.

As long as you do a 30+ mile freeway run of 65-70mph every now and then they do just fine.

I'd still be concerned about blue smoke and would get those codes read/it inspected asap. Chances are at 100k+ miles it might be a dying DPF. My first one only made it to 78k miles.
