Mityvac rebuild kit

My Mityvac no longer works after 18 years and am wondering if anyone has tried the Mityvac rebuild kit?

I’ve never rebuilt mine. I have taken them apart and cleaned them out though. I’m kind of a slob and I suck debris into my mityvac periodically. After it gooes up it quits. Cleaning and greasing with silicone o-ring grease gets it working again.

They have some economy models now that work pretty well. I needed one in a hurry, I was in a foreign land (Washington state) so I bought one at O’Reillys for about $60 - it’s made out of some kind of high-grade plastic, looks a lot like the aluminum model. Has worked fine so far. I see online Home Depot sells them for $32, Walmart for $38. I don’t know if that’s mail order or on the shelf.

I have an Actron metal handheld vacuum tester I bought in the 1980's. When it stopped holding vacuum, I took it apart and replaced the O-ring on the Piston and it has worked fine for over 10 years.

If something can be rebuilt or not always depends on the failure and if parts are available and the cost is reasonable. Note and sometimes if you need special tools or procedures.

I had a plastic Mighty-Mite hand vacuum pump which jammed internally, perhaps from letting some glycol brake fluid or gasoline get past the bleed cup. I recall not finding any way to disassemble it, like the plastic was fused together. I bought it maybe 1990's. Have had the cheaper Harbor metal vac pump since, for over 20 years with no issues.

I picked the Acron metal one because I thought the plastic one was going to get damaged somewhere along the line in my work as a mechanic. Getting a metal one proved to be a good choice as I believe over the years it had taken enough abuse that would have ruined the plastic one.

I have gotten diesel fuel and brake fluid inside of mine.

Just looked the Harbor Freight handheld vacuum pump with the plastic brake bleeding stuff is $25. The Home Depot rebuild kit for the Mighty Vac is about $18

Well, out of curiosity I looked on eBay the newest Actron ones are made in the PRC; my one from the 1980's is US made.
When I blew up eBay pic of the bubble pack it also has Bosch Automotive Service Solutions LLC on it.
