Would've posted earlier but had a 500 mile trip this weekend.

1977, Auto., Euro lights. 215K mi. 70K miles are mine. Puchased 2/00. White w/blue interior and optional (well, maybe not w/blue int.) craked dash. May not be fast but will do 75mph all day on level land.

First was a 1975 240D, manual everything, no a/c, sunroof. Picked up at factory in January 1975. Replaced with 1982 240D, manual everything again, but this time with a/c. First died of body rot but had a willing engine at 245,000 miles, 1982 was purchased second hand with 105,000 on the odometer. Now has 289,000 and is in daily use by my daughter at college in Upstate NY. Getting old, showing some signs of rust on the rockers and doors, but a really strong engine. Daughter determined to get the 500,000 km badge! Best all around car ever made. Jim

Count me in.

If I had enough garage space, and thought my wife wouldn't mind, I would start stockpiling them.

1975 240D 115 266,000 miles
Lots of blowby but burns zero and I do mean zero oil. Sounds like a top end to me.
A little paint problem on the drivers door and a few dings but everything works including the a/c and power sunroof.

Couldn't have gotten things done without the team here!

Bought this car in May (when I joined the forum) and now have over $590.00 total into it (including the car). Boy, if only all my investments were this good on return!!!
2 - 1100 mile road trips and lots of little ones. Bought the car because my van got in a wreck (deer) and thought it would be my daily driver until the van got finished. But as plans would have it after I waxed it and got it running real nice my wife has decided it is her car...

Anyone want to buy her Jeep?!

1980 240D automatic tranny with everything else manual. 250000 miles. Ivory with rust behind the wheels. Bought in 1993 with 150kmiles for $3200.

Currently my daily driver doing 325 miles/week. She runs better now then when I bought her. Normal maintenance, new injectors, adjust valves, adjust steering, and change the oil, all filters....etc, etc. Uses 1 qt in 1800 miles, no leaks, shifts good.

Rust will probably kill her, but chemotheorpy may give her another 10 years.

And best of all...very wrenchable.

Joe

Now that the youngest of these cars are 17 years old, I'm surprised to see so many low mileage 240D's out there.

I liked the idea about stockpiling them.

Have a great day,

I HAD a 1983 240D that I sold to my sister for my neice to drive (16 yr old - first car). Initially, I let her use it for the summer then she decides that she does not want to get caught up in the Honda/Toyota/Nissan first car thing so I reluctantly sold it to her for what I had in it. I am doing the maintenance on it for her but looking back, I kinda hate I sold it. It is up to 126,xxx miles now. We do have a written agreement that if she decides to get rid of it I get it back .

330,000 miles - owned it since new. Converted to a manual transmission about five years ago.

1980 240D with 188,327 miles. It has a 4 speed and is pretty peppy- compared to my lawn mower! The car runs great and is fun to drive, easy to work on too. The color combo is light ivory on the outside with palomino on the inside.
